Padres Prospects up 5-1 vs Rangers. Quantril was hitting 96-97, didn't think he threw that hard. Espinoza looks legit, Josh Naylor loves hitting at Petco, and Luis Urias will be special.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Pretty good day of playoff baseball...hard to beat MLB playoffs, IMO."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers HornsbyComment

Could you tell us a little more bout Quantrill. I want to follow his career a bit as he's the son of a former Blue Jay.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

SpoilerScouting Grades: Fastball: 60 | Curve: 55 | Slider: 50 | Changeup: 55 | Control: 50 | Overall: 50
The son of former big leaguer Paul Quantrill, Cal was shut down after just three starts as a sophomore with an elbow injury that ultimately required Tommy John surgery. Though he didn't pitch for Stanford in 2016, Quantrill was able to throw multiple bullpen sessions for Padres scouts at PetCo Park leading up to the Draft. San Diego ended up using its first of five Day One picks on Quantrill, selecting him eighth overall and then signing him for above slot value at $3,963,045.
When healthy, the Canadian-born standout has an outstanding four-pitch mix, with a chance for all of them to be at least Major League average. Quantrill will throw his fastball in the low-to-mid 90s, and he can locate it well. He has both a curve and slider, with the former ahead of the latter, and his changeup has good fade and sink. He has an outstanding feel for pitching and a plus mound presence.
The Padres will monitor Quantrill closely as he continues to distance himself from Tommy John surgery, and he's expected to be held to a strict innings limit early in his career. But once the reins are loosened, the right-hander possesses the size, stuff and pitchability to make a quick ascent through the Minors.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
First batter:
95 MPH FB low and away (1-0)
95 MPH FB: Ground rule double which was misplayed by the CF
Second batter:
95 MPH FB for a strike (swinging miss)
83 MPH slider inside for a ball (1-1)
95 MPH FB low and away (2-1)
84 MPH SL for a swinging strike (2-2)
84 MPH CH in the dirt (3-2)
83 MPH CH for a strikeout (looking). Completely fooled the batter.
Third batter:
83 MPH CH, inside for a ball (1-0)
95 MPH FB high and outside but chased, foul ball. (1-1)
95 MPH FB inside and hit for a weak pop fly to the SS. 2 outs.
Fourth batter:
84 MPH CH for a strike. (0-1)
84 MPH CH lined to LF for a base hit and an RBI.
Fifth batter:
96 MPH FB inside for a ball
96 MPH FB for a strike (swinging). 1-1
96 MPH FB fouled off. (1-2)
96 MPH FB fouled off. Should have been an out. Josh Naylor dropped it in foul territory. Misjudged the railing.
84 MPH SL low and away for a swinging strike out.
He definitely looked the most comfortable throwing his Change up. His FB had much more zip than I thought it had. He looked poised and definitely knows how to pitch on the mound.
Josh Naylor went 2-3 with a 3 Run HR and a Double.
Espinoza threw 13 pitches, 12 strikes with 2 K's in 1 inning of work. He is FILTHY!!Last edited by franch1se; 10-08-2016, 02:22 AM.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Which is good news for the ALCS opponent. Going up against Cleveland without Salazar or Carrasco. Sure, Cleveland's pitching is still good without those guys, but I think they'd fare much better vs Cleveland than Boston whose batters can turn it on at any momentComment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
A friend of mine is a brother-in-law to Paul (married his sister).
He has some great stories about touring around with Paul now and then while he traveled the US playing games.
He was part of a motorcade that left Yankee Stadium after a game. Said that was pretty cool.
Apparently he's also scouting with the Jays and he and Delgado are scouting buddies that travel together during assignments.Last edited by Money99; 10-11-2016, 02:30 PM.Comment
