I'm just wondering how NY was able to get two teams in every league but seems like any time any city in any sport might have 2 teams, there's lots of objections over territorial rights.

I'll use Toronto and hockey as one example. They easily could have two teams and the 2nd would become one of biggest in the league, but Toronto and Buffalo block anything like it from happening. But NY Islanders came into NHL despite Rangers already being there for many decades prior.

Yeah, and the Rangers objected. League pressure and a 5-million dollar check from the Isles changed the Rangers' minds.

So I'm guessing we also saw big amounts of objections from all other NY teams who were first or what? Most recently MLS with nycfc added despite red Bulls also in NY. Though in NFL, wasn't the moves to la almost a package deal and not a fight for 1 team only?

Lol, I'm getting too off topic in off topic thread.

Game 6 of the 1995 World Series, most likely.

This actually makes me want to research because the first thing that came to mind with most of the games I'd want to see is that I probably wouldn't have been allowed in the stadium in the first place. How did integration work in regards to attendance? How would that have worked? Was it stadium by stadium?

Willie Mays live is probably my holy grail. Any of those 50's battles with the Kings of New York going head to head. Can't imagine what a WS game in the 50's at Ebbets with Jackie and Duke against the Yankees must've been like.

I believe (at least for the northern cities) there were sections for black people but mostly in the nosebleeds or situated where they won't be easily seen in the crowd.

Anywho as for my pick it's a toss up between Game 6 1993 World Series and Game 5 of the 2015 ALDS between the Jays and Rangers.

Yeah I figured either that or it was almost taken care of naturally with the existence of the Negro Leagues.

That's another thing I'd love to see. I take back Willie Mays as my grail. As much as I love Willie we at least have some idea what he was like. I wanna see Satchel Paige in his prime.

So here's a little nugget I've gleamed in watching my sports DVD collection. I'm in the midst of watching Game 2 of the '95 WS and Bob Costas mentioned that during the Jerry Faust regime at Notre Dame Albert Belle was recruited to play QB for the Irish.

How's that for some useless info?

Albert Belle may have killed Lou Holtz.

The MLB is really focusing on these batters' exit velocity. I'm not really sure how you hit the ball 118 mph and make an out within 3 feet!

                            Foul-tip strikeout off Henry Rowengartner?

In all seriousness, I'd like to see who has both awesome average exit velocity and a high contact percentage. Maybe there is a way the two numbers can be multiplied or something to determine overall efficiency?

Retired Red Sox slugger David Ortiz is still miffed how his name was leaked to the New York Times eight years ago, when a Times report identified him as one of 104 Major League Baseball players who…

The only thing that I can think of, a lot of the guys from the Yankees were getting caught," Ortiz said on WEEI. "No one from Boston. Who was the big guy in Boston? It was me. A newspaper coming out of New York with that news, I guess they were just trying to do what they did -- call the attention somewhere else."
I guess he's finally gotten to the bottom of his investigation, it must've been the NY papers out to get a Boston star. It also must've been the Mets plotting against the Yankees when Sports Illustrated, also based in NY, outed A-Rod.

This is just my mind rambling, but I want to know what you think. This is regarding starting rotation order:

Instead of starting off the season with 1-2-3-4-5, how do you think a team would fare out if on Opening Day their rotation was 4-5-1-2-3?

If the schedules played out perfectly, this would match up your #4 with their #1 always, your #1 with their #3 always, etc. What I'm really looking at is turning the mentality from "Give yourself a chance to win every game" to "Win three of every five games." In a perfect world, that is really the kind of scenario you are playing towards.

The only real downfall that I see is if they each pitch every five games, then your #4 and #5 start games 161 and 162 (on top of starting off the season 0-2). But to put yourself in the position of taking more wins than less every five games, you're looking at a 90+ win season (if this all panned out perfectly, it would be 96 wins).

Do games really work like this? Of course not. I'm just just thinking out loud how the idea sounds and wonder if a team would ever consider putting that idea into practice. I might sim this in The Show (turning off injuries and trades) multiple times against the standard control group for some team and see what happens.

If you can punch holes through this idea, by all means please do so. It just came to me is all and I thought I'd get it out in a post.
