That headline is bad journalism. Eckersley is doing his job...he's an analyst now, so it is his job to critique players. What JBJ did is underhanded (unless he told Eck that's why he wanted the picture, which it doesn't sound like he did) and Price is acting like a 12 year old. Pretty remarkable if this is all true...I can't believe these guys would be acting like this.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Seems like some of those Boston players could benefit from having some thicker skin. It's Boston. What Eck said/did is pretty tame for that market. Not every color analyst is going to be a rah rah Hawk Harrelson type. You have to allow for criticism if you do anything at a high and visible level. This whole situation kinda reminds me of a lukewarm version of what went down when Steve Stone was critical of a highly touted 2004 era Cubs team and Moises Alou, among others on the team, took some of Stone's analysis really personally. Stoney is meaner than Eckersley on any day of the week that ends with "y".
Just going off what has been made public here. Maybe Eckersley is a bad person, but I've never caught wind of that before now. I've actually liked his analysis the few times I've watched a broadcast with him working the game.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Actually, i'm probably more on his side than anything else. I really don't understand the culture in Boston sometimes. There's been times when the players completely own the clubhouse and makes it impossible to manage them. I'm no great fan of Bobby Valentine (the game had certainly passed him by in 2012) but some of the things that came out of David Ortiz's book seemed a bit unfair to Valentine. He really didn't have much of a chance to succeed there.
I mean, if saying "yuck" about a rehab pitching line causes Price and others to act like jerks I can't imagine what REAL criticism would result in. I also think it's quite telling how immature that group can be when they didn't even give him a chance to defend himself.
Still, as I said it seems management and ownership don't give a damn about Eckersley and thus he might be hitting the road if the players complain too much behind the scenes.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Where are you getting management and ownership not giving a damn about Eck?

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Just makes everyone in the Boston organisation look pretty classless tbh. I'm amazed that he could yell that in front of all his teammates and the management without anyone having the balls to call him out is a pretty sad state of affairs. Just typical school bully type thing to do.
Makes you wonder how he fought his way to the top if he has such thin skin that he can't handle criticism from peoples job it is to criticise (when the situation calls for it)Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Red Sox are a bunch of sackless ****ing crybabies that starts with their spineless sorry excuse for a manager. NESN is basically a pro Red Sox propaganda machine. To allow themselves to catch feeling of Eck saying "yuck" is beyond embarrassing and pathetic. And to ambush a legend like Eck the way they did and ito have yet to issue an apology privately and publicly after is inexcusable.
This story makes me so incredibly angry. Enought to push me the the point of openly rooting against them making the playoffs. They don't deserve our support. I need John Farrell gone. I can't it anymore.Comment

Basically the whole deal of not having the players or Farrell apologizing for what happened. Most organizations would at LEAST have made either Price or Farrell apologize privately for what happened on the plane.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Sucks that Kershaw is out 4-6 weeks. Gives the morons ammo against him too. "He fails in the playoffs AND he's injury prone?! What's so special about him?!?" etc.
Gonna suck when they get either Verlander or Darvish (or both?). Ugh.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Those morons would be doubly idiotic for calling him injury prone. Admittedly, some injury analysis experts have been saying for the last couple years that Kershaw is a prime candidate to break down but for the majority of his career he's been remarkably healthy. The whole "he can't win in the playoffs" crap should be shelved especially since he did well last year.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

MLB Off-Topic
From the Dan Shaughnessy Boston Globe column on Sunday.
"During the recent homestand against Toronto, Red Sox owner John Henry visited privately with Eckersley (off air) for a half-inning. Sox chairman Tom Werner, Dombrowski, and Kennedy also have reached out to Eckersley in an effort to smooth things over. According to three people close to Eckersley, there has been no apology from Price or Farrell."Comment
