One of the most genuinely nice guys to play the game and my favorite Blue Jay of the post World Series Era. I'm literally in tears and feel like i've been punched in the gut multiple times.

Absolutely awful...got the alert and felt like someone had punched me in the gut. I am so sick and tired of baseball losing these guys. I know he was retired, but he isn't old. I feel like more young, baseball players have died in last 5 years than the previous 25 years combined.

Always had a ton of respect for Roy. This is terrible. I don’t know what else to say. RIP.

What Roy Halladay did for this city when he came here in 2010 will never be forgotten. I'm in shock.

I'm watching coverage on Sportsnet here in Canada. This is just so terrible. You also have to remember that he was a great father. I feel so sad for his immediate family. 40 years is way too young.

As a ballplayer he was an icon in not one but two cities for what he accomplished on the field. On a sports related front, i'm so glad he was able to accept the Canadian Baseball HOF induction this past summer.

Doc Halladay was one of the better pitchers of his era and nobody that you'd ever want to face as a batter. An intimidator, but the type of guy that nobody could say a bad word about. This is totally out of left field and untimely for him to go too soon the same way as Clemente and Munson. R.I.P.

Harry Leroy Halladay III[1] (May 14, 1977 – November 7, 2017), nicknamed "Doc", was an American professional baseball player who pitched in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Toronto Blue Jays and Philadelphia Phillies between 1998 and 2013. His nickname, coined by Toronto Blue Jays announcer Tom Cheek,[2] was a reference to Wild West gunslinger "Doc" Holliday.

I was also just reminded that his NLDS no-hitter was his first ever postseason start.

                          Simply incredible.

Got home and just saw the news, I can't even process it. He was truly one of the guys I looked forward to watching, just such a talented guy who by all accounts was a great teammate and a great person off the field. RIP to one of the greats and future HOF'er.
