Got that much Cotten - don’t get the context here though. It’s not a “strategy.”

Neither was Average Joe's Gym potentially forfeiting their match being down a player, lol.

I hadn't even heard of this outside this post, so this will definitely be interesting to see. Gives a good reason to tune into the A's broadcast, though. I'm not overly ecstatic NBCSBA let go of Glen Kuiper (though his PBP was rather vanilla anyway).

Legislative session started 20 minutes ago to go over amendment(s) to the funding bill. I wonder if it might pass during the 'reverse boycott' game.

how is it not a strategy? I'm so confused I looked up the definition to make sure I'm not misunderstanding the word:

a plan of action or policy designed to achieve a major or overall aim
the fans had a strategy to reverse boycott to get the owner to sell instead of relocating

edit: wait, if you're saying it wasn't a legit strategy, that was the point of the original joke, you're gonna have to clear this up for me lol, things easily go over my head

NV legislature is done w/ the Athletics bill, sending it to the governor who is expected to sign it.

If they move to NV, they've got their public funding. Think MLB relocation processes are next up.

I guess no matter what, the team can't move until after the 2024 season?

Lease is up after next season, but could work w/ Oakland to let them not play a lame duck season. Probably in both sides' best interest that they work something out and they relocate to interim facilities until the new ballpark is ready after this season.

Outside of opening weekend and the reverse boycott game they seem to do maybe 13,000 or so average on weekends and 5,000 or so average on weekdays (I'm just "ballparking" here)?

Their AAA facility holds 10,000. I'd imagine Oakland attendance next year for regular games would be real bad anyways since fans know they're gone, people will just go for big games/final time to see ___ games.

So it could work. They'd probably have to fix up the ballpark first though? I know when Jays has to play in Buffalo they had to really revamp the ballpark to get it to MLB standards like changing all the lights and having all new clubhouses and facilities.

Las Vegas Ballpark is the rumored possibility. They won't have to do too much to get it up to standards as the park is only 3 years old.

Yeah, Raiders made similar overtures (training camp in northern Nevada) but nothing was ever finalized or ended up happening. As a result that's been met with a healthy bit of skepticism as pandering to lawmakers in the area because a lot of the consternation in the legislature was trying to get things for the rural counties, not just Nevada, since it's public funding for the state as a whole going to this not just funds derived from Clark County.

                          Loosely related, oof:

Manfred on the reverse boycott by fans of the Oakland Athletics

"I mean, it was great. It is great to see what is this year almost an average Major League Baseball crowd in the facility for one night. That's a great thing."

Yeah, nobody's coming out of this looking good that's for sure. Oakland, Vegas, the club, the league... will take a long time for the stink wear off and for many fans it never will.

Unlike Allegiant Stadium it will take so much more for this project to demonstrate success. Personally looking forward to it, but I'm also not a baseball fan, just a Vegas local enjoying the explosive growth of professional sports in town.

Maybe when the NBA inevitably comes we can do it with a bit less drama?

Recently went to an indoor football league game, that was neat. So many tweaks to the rules, was like watching a real life NFL Blitz in many respects.

I honestly don't think sports teams should receive any public funding to fund anything to do with their team. I am still getting over the bitter taste of David Tepper's debacle of the Carolina Panther's training facility fiasco. I love the Panthers, but I despise the owner.
