**** it let's do it, except you earn a golden at bat every time your opponent stops the game for a pitchcom malfunction.

Let's not stop there either. You also get one lead at bat per game, where you get to pick your opponents batter

Manfred thinks because "people got over" the pitch clock, he thinks he can do the same for this, but this is different. One sped up the same game as before, this would make a mockery of more than 125 years of baseball

For an ASG, sure, it would be fun. Maybe even ST just so the coaches can get 1 more AB for a guy.

          For a regular season game.....NO.

            You'll regret asking.

Manfred wants to add the "golden at bat" where once a game a team is allowed to select whoever they want to step up to the plate (imagine its bottom 9, 2 outs, runner on 3rd and you're down 1, but your #9 hitter is up....golden at bat, now your #4 guy can suddenly come back to the plate).

Because I was behind the paywall I thought they meant bringing out like a golden aluminum bat or something, which besides the safety aspects I thought would be funny (I keep thinking about it in Backyard Baseball), but it's not something I'd actually like to see. What they're deciding upon is an absolute mockery, however.

If this happens, I might stop watching the MLB. I keep warning that baseball is my live-breathe-die sport, but there is a straw that'll break the camel's back that is my affiliation with this league. Manfred is really, really pushing my buttons.

Matrix and I have been saying it for years, starting with whichever rule he brought in first. Was it the NL DH? Automatic walks? I can't remember.

The only rules he's put in place I'm okay with are shortened commercial breaks and larger rosters. The pitch clock one is so-so, since I thought it has always been a rule but just wasn't enforced. I think they're making it too short and I don't like having it as short in the last three innings of the game, personally.

Manfred is the worst thing to happen to this sport since he arrived on scene, by far.

                    Re: MLB Off-Topic

Ever since I learned that ground rule doubles were once counted as homers I have taken a step back when considering rule changes. Rules change in all sports, all the time, and while the "essence" of any particular sport may remain constant, they haven't always been exactly the same as their current version (3-point line anyone?), so I like to keep that in mind.

                    Recent changes:

-Roster change from 25 to 26. Didn't like it, but my main reason is that it was kind of weird? Was this due to Covid? Why didn't they go back after it? Why would owners give the MLBPA an additional roster spot? What did they get in exchange? Isn't Manfred sick of pitching changes, why are you giving them an additional roster spot that could be used for a pitcher? Plus yes, I like the number 25 more than 26 But, whatever.

-Going from 1 or 2 interleague series a year to basically no distinction like we have now. Didn't like it, and if could, I would revert it (I would have no interleague play at all). I get why they do it, can only watch Pirates vs. Reds so many times before you go insane But, ugh.

-Automatic base on ball. Didn't not like it. I don't care how low the percentage is that the pitcher might make a mistake and throw a wild pitch or that the catcher might mishandle it and the runner might advance; it could happen! Good enough for me. But I get it, want to speed up things.

-Banning the shift. Again, did not like it (sense a common theme here?). I have been over this before, felt this was an ingenious innovation that was not against the rules. I will survive.

-3 batters rule for pitchers. Didn't not like it. Took strategy away even if I was annoyed by having to wait for the pitching change. If the pitching change could be instantaneously done, no one would say anything.

-Ghost runner in extras. Horrible, but they keep it confined to the regular season. Like everything else in this list, at different levels, I have come to tolerate it.

-Universal DH. Conflicted, because I didn't like that the leagues had different rules, but would have preferred if they went with pitchers hitting in both leagues again while acknowledging that they (mostly) SUCK at hitting But I guess I liked it better with different rules than with universal DH.

-Pitch clock. Most significant change to baseball in my lifetime. Ummm, I was on the fence with this one, depending on how it was implemented. It has been well implemented and it has been a success in shortening games.

-Automatic strikezone (incoming). For it, if it can be done correctly and it actually improves accuracy.

See? I can tolerate change, some of it I actually can like. I'm not an unreasonable person. If anything, I find it more outrageous that every year, at seemingly the sole discretion of the Commissioner's Office, and in total obscurity and secrecy, they determine to change the ball to either add more "flight" or less of it. This is outrageous and should be much more of an issue than it currently is.

But this Golden Rule, nah. I could make reasonable arguments in favor for each of those changes above, some more credible than others. But this one shall not pass or my time and money are about to be spent on the NBA and NFL.

                      Re: MLB Off-Topic

Damn, I just thought of at least 3 more changes since I submitted my post like 5 minutes ago. Which is also part of the problem with all of this, too much change, too fast, with no end.

-Pitchcom. Eh, it's ok as long as you give pitchers the chance of going old school is they want to. But I'm seeing way too much of "pitchcom is discharged, stop the game while they get him a charged one". Make it so that if it is discharged you have to finish the inning old school.

-Posey rule. Don't like it, bit convoluted. Kind of surprised there hasn't been a big "see? SEE?!" moment against this rule that I can remember.

-2nd base rule. Don't like it, it was an overreaction like with the Posey rule.

-Replay. What can I say, you would think that something that would have avoided Denkinger's call in Game 6 of the 85' WS or Galagarra's near perfect game call would be something positive, but anytime they go to replay I want to throw something at the TV. One of the most unsatisfactory features in all of sports.

-Checking pitchers for sticky. Sure, go for it.

-2 throws to 1st, 3rd one has to get the runner. Didn't like it.

-Batter has to stay in the box. ****ING LOVE IT.

Meh..if it gets implemented then I'll adapt like I have with all the other rule changes that have been implemented over the years.

The DH rule I don’t like, I think it is a strategy hit to the game.

The 3 batter rule I don’t like either.

                            Pitch clock I really like

Ghost runner, I am good either way.

Auto walk, I am good either way.

This golden bat thing is way out of line. It just might make me leave MLB.

I'm 100 percent against the Golden Bat; it's just dumb.

But I'm also curious. Let's say the Dodgers use the Golden Bat to have Ohtani hit 8th and he's still on base when his normal spot comes up in the order. What happens then?

Or Ohtani doubles with one out and Mookie strikes out. Can they have Ohtani use the Golden Bat to hit again even though he's already on second?

I thought about that, and I don't know if this is an insertion into the lineup or a replacement for a player; if it's a replacement, I assume that previous hitter now becomes his runner. If it's an insertion, I have no idea. They can't keep the guy out there because of the very reason you mentioned.

I haven't thought about this situation, but my guess is the hitter is either unusable or a sub goes in for him. I would hope it's not just some courtesy runner and he is actually replaced, though.

I can't believe I'm actually even talking about this stupid rule like it's something I'd be interested in. I'm just speaking hypothetically, as there are major holes in its logic.
