Last year when Bob Melvin had the M's in 1st place in the AL West nearly all season long, I never heard anyone saying "Melvin is a terrible manager"...

      Give him time.

I've been saying that from the beginning. Not to mention the Mariners runs scored and runs allowed stats indicate they should've won 99 games vs 93.

Bringing in Mike Myers in the 9th inning of a tie game with the heart of the A's order up is pure stupidity when you have Guardado.

I disagree. Look at the heart of the A's order: Chavez (lefty), Dye (righty), and Durazo (lefty). Chavez is weak against left handed pitching, Dye is on fire so it doesn't matter who is pitching, and Durazo is slumping terribly, which is magnified further against a lefty.

The A's have hit Guardado really hard recently, too. You don't bring in your closer just because it is the 9th inning all the time. If the M's were ahead, then ok, I guess roll with it. However, imo, Myers was the right call to make with all those lefties batting. Some times it just doesn't work out. It's always easy to question something when it doesn't go the way it is supposed to.

If I recall Guardado is a lefty himself. Oh, and he also happens to be our best reliever. Oh, and the heart of the order was coming up which had Byrnes(righty)Chavez(lefty)Dye(righty)Durazo(lefty ). It wasn't possible for a save to happen in this game, it was tied and the top of the 9th.

He brings Myers in to face the rigthy which is just plain dumb. He ends up walking him. He then proceeds to give up a hit to Chavez even with the good match up. On the other hand Guardado holds lefties to a .196 OBA, plus Chavez struggles against lefthanders probably = Out. Not to mention he probably retires Byrnes as well.

This had nothing to do with the ninth inning. It had to do with the best matchups and the smartest move. Everyday Eddie should've been the guy.

Melvin screwed up, and Sports, I don't think you have a very good point.
