Ughh.. Fogg against the Cubs again? This is going to get ugly. He's gonna get lit up like a Christmas tree and won't last till the 4th inning.

    I hope I'm wrong

I think we nailed it. Fogg doesn't even record 1 out and is out of the game in the 1st inning. 8-0 Cubbies. This is the most pathetic display I've seen in a while. The Pirates look like Little Leaguers!

    <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

That is absolutly awful. No way around it.

I feel sorry for the bullpen. When ever Foggs turn in the rotation comes up they always seem to be pitching more then he does. No exception tonight, good luck Brian Meadows

I really think the Bucs should seriously consider giving Sean Burnett a try in the rotation. Fogg is effective only when his control is decent, and right now, he can't hit any of his spots. Considering he's not going to be with the Pirates after this season (he's arbitration eligible), there's no real harm in trying out someone else there.

I'm glad we'll be done with the Cubs for a while after tomorrow.

Re: Official 2004 Pittsburgh Pirates GameLog/Chat

The only chance that this team has to win every game is if they get starting pitching. When they get it, the Bucs can manufacture a run and keep it a close game. When they don't get starting pitching it's terrible. They don't have enough offense to hang in slugfests. They need to win with good pitching and small ball, and Fogg is not giving that. His pitches are all over the place, and he is getting rocked.

If this goes on for any longer Pirates definatly need to think about calling up someone, preferably Burnett. But just to play Manager for a sec. here would be my plan:

-Skip Fogg's next turn through the rotation. He's scheduled to pitch in the Reds series. Get Torres or Meadows to take over that start.
-Have Fogg pitch on the side with Spin Williams. Josh is a very dedicated individual and will do whatever it takes to get out of this funk and Spin can help on the side.
-Since Fogg isn't starting next time through the rotation have him come out of the bullpen. Some game where there's not that much pressure. Either a blowout or mopup game. Let him face some competetion and see what happens.
-If it goes well, you can pitch him out of the pen for a while or you could give him his spot back. I think he's better suited for the pen, but Mac likes him in the rotation.
-Finally if he still is getting rocked call Sean Burnett up. See if Fogg can pitch in the minors just to get his mechanics back. Burnett should be the 5th starter in the majors and can show Mac what he brings to the table. If Burnett does well it's his job, if he struggles maybe Fogg can reclaim the spot after some time in the minors.

Fogg is not a long term option for the Pirates as a starter. Like Pitt said he probably won't be back since he is arbitration eligable. I still think that Fogg can be somewhat effective at least for another year with the Bucs , but his job is not safe. Get Burnett up if Fogg struggles . Plus maybe Sean can give some hitting tip to Stynes since he does have more homers then Stynes.

Although, I actually agree with the end point of his article. Stynes, Nunez, and Simon are all expendable. Simon sealed his fate with me last night when, coming to bat with the bases loaded, he swung at the first pitch (yet again) and hit a little nubber to second. Anyone with any concept of a strikezone would take that pitch, not to mention that you need a big hit, so you might want to wait on a good pitch. Simon simply lacks that little part of his brain.

Stynes and Nunez simply lack hitting ability period.

It's early yet, but I must say, there's no cure for a slumping team quite like Jimmy "B.P." Haynes.

It's a good thing Benson is having an off night, or else I would send Carl Lindner thousands of hate letters to get rid of Haynes.

Seriously, the guy has never been good, and he has to go. Why did we sign him to a big contract again?
