I like that trade with the Yankees. Wherever they end up trading Benson, I hope that it's to the AL. I don't want to see him dominate the Pirates every year like we get with Jason Schmidt.

And one more sleepy grumbling. Give Tike some time off. He is obviously struggling, his batting average is in the .215 range last check, and he can't drive anybody in. Best advice is to give him some time off. Bucs have Monday off, then in the next series sit Tike down. Tell him he needs a rest and just to get himself together. Redman has been playing baseball constantly. All of last year, then he was very involved in winter ball, plus spring training, and all of this year with out a break. Give the kid a couple days off it will do wonders Mac.Comment

Re: Official 2004 Pittsburgh Pirates GameLog/Chat
Lost a good game to Houston 4-3. Every time I see Jack Wilson hit, I gag that I was so down on him. Jose Castillo is really looking good getting a double and a walk. He could have been the hero today if Nunez didn't get caught trying to second in the top of the 9th with 2 outs. Fogg looked pretty decent too. He looked like he may have been rattled after giving up a homerun on the first pitch but he came back nicely.Comment

See...I TOLD you Jack should hit second
If Lloyd gave the steal sign to Nunez, he deserves a real *** whooping. One, Nunez isn't that fast, and two, you don't want to make the last out on a baserunning play. If Nunez made the call, then he deserves a spot in the corner on the bench even more than ever. With all the talk about maybe exposing Davis to waivers, maybe the Pirates should do that with Nunez instead. We already have a plethora of middle infielders; Davis, unlike Nunez, actually could have an upside; plus I don't think anyone would actually claim Nunez off waivers.
Fogg did look good last night. Like Bob Walk said (over and over and over and over), he does well against dead pull hitters, which is what most of Houston's lineup is. I fault Kendall for the Kent homerun because I would have gone with something more offspeed. I think he threw four fastballs in a row.
I hate to say this, but tonight's game is going to be ugly.“In my lifetime, we've gone from Eisenhower to George W. Bush. We've gone from John F. Kennedy to Al Gore. If this is evolution, I believe that in twelve years, we'll be voting for plants.” - Lewis BlackComment

Re: Official 2004 Pittsburgh Pirates GameLog/Chat
Go ahead rub it in I deserve it, he should bat second
Once again getting rid of Nunez is no problem with me. With so many middle infielders plus Sanchez returning it's getting real clogged there. The only reason Nunez isn't ridding the pine on some other team is because Mac loves him. Any other player and he probably wouldn't be with the Pirates.
As for tonights game I have a sneaking suspicion that the Pirates may pull it out. Clemens will be good but the Pirates squeek one out. Just my guess, we'll see how wrong I am after the game.Comment

I hope you're right about tonight. I just have this sinking feeling that we're in for another one of those patented Kip Wells losses -- he gives up 2 runs on 3 hits over 7 innings and loses because his team only gets one single off of the starter, and because Mac starts Nunez and Davis over Castillo and Mackowiak (with Stynes at first, of course)“In my lifetime, we've gone from Eisenhower to George W.
