Vegas is at best a fallback candidate for the expos. A vegas team would have virtually no local support. Also there's a question that the space for the stadium site may not even be available by the time the team moves. Norfolk gets an A for effort. But let's be real about this, baseball is not coming there. MLB would be taking too much of a risk putting the Expos in an area like Norfolk, and they can't afford to take it. I heard the Washington Times is reporting that sources close to the relocation committee says that it's basically been narrowed down to choosing between DC and NoVA. IMO NoVA would be better if for no other reason than Angelos bitching won't be taken as seriously than it would if the team was moving to DC.

Rumor has it they MLB will pay Angelos off and then he turn and sell his team!!

Nope, I know about the Mets and the Yankees. They have been around a LONG time and have built their fan bases. Starting a new team would be different. I'm sure DC and Portland would build fan bases very quickly, but no where near the size of the Yankees and Mets.

First of all, IF Portland got a team, they would build a retractable domed stadium. Just like the team in Seattle that plays in the same climate.

            Secondly, so would Vegas.

Have you ever been to Vegas in July? Sure, if you're in the shade if feels like 80, but if you in the sun (and there's not a cloud in the sky) the 120 degrees actually cooks you.

portland doesn't need a roof during the baseball season - little rain from Apr-Sept

portland is one of the largest metropolitan areas with just one professional sports team. some of you seem to be dismissing portland without just reason - fight your east coast bias.

the only negative aspect of portland and oregon for major league baseball is the anti-big-corporation people in government.

Thank you for pointing out the complete mis-understanding of Portland weather. Baseball coincides with the sunny season here, when ALL portlanders, aware of the impending months of rain, want nothing more than to be in the outdoors.

For a city considered more on the liberal slant, the folks here are very mis-trusting and narrow-minded about baseball. To me, that's the biggest obstacle to overcome. The team would have to be in the NL-- I don't see the Mariners digging an AL rival being so close. As for a stadium-- a cozy, chic field with definite Earth tones would do... maybe a small forest in right-center like that rock collection in Denver, but with like half the seating as that field.

A lot of people are acting like the Expos are our one chance at a baseball team, but I don't see it that way. With the population growing as it is, it isn't a matter of if a team will come here but a matter of when.
