How I Want To Get Beltran

As a Yankee fan, I would really like to acquire Beltran, just for the year, to help get us the ring. Here's what we do...

The Boss personally signed Kenny Lofton in the offseason, not GM Brian Cashman. I bet George would cream his pants if we got Beltran so he wouldn't be too upset parting with Lofton. It goes 3 ways with the Yanks, Royals and A's.

    A's Get-

Kenny Lofton- Get some speed in the OF and a decent bat
Robinson Canoe- Top Yankee prospect who can play 2B or 3B

    Royals get-

Dioner Navarro (from Yanks)- Top prospect cacther who could evolve into a Piazza one day.

Mark Teahen (from A's)- Prospect 3B from Oakland who was hitting .335 in AA this year and his starting to heat up in AAA.

    Yankees Get-

    Beltran

    Then Bernie can DH

    What do you think?

Re: How I Want To Get Beltran

I say this not as a Yankee ***** but just as someone who follows baseball. I don't think the Yankees should seriously make a run for Carlos Beltran. The best thing for the Yankees to do is to follow the bidding war and just try their best to raise the price for him. Raise it and try to keep it from the Boston Red Sox because they will give up a lot to rent him for the year because after this year they got some major free agents.

Right now the Yankees don't even need him. Bernie Williams is hitting like 5 years ago and getting Beltran will push Bernie to DH and force Giambi to play 1st everyday. Even thoug he's done well this year playing full time I think Giambi is going to need some time at DH down the stretch and that going to push somebody out of the lineup.

PLus after this year the Yankees will have a shot to sign him as a free agent. Scott Boras's clients almost never sign extensions they always try to hit free agency. When he becomes a free agent at the end of the year the Yanks could be a front runner to sign him without giving up their minor league system.

Even though I dislike the Yankees I think it would be much better move to shop for a pitcher down the stretch. I mean right now Tanyon Sturtz is in the rotation. Yankees should just jack up the price in a bidding war and wait for him to become a free agent.

Some very good points, I'm glad it was unbiased. Here are my responses though.

The first thing you said is true, and the only thing I'd love more than the Yankees getting him is the Red Sox NOT getting him. Sure the Yankees have a depleting farm system, but a player that is a legitmate threat top put up 40/40 numbers each year may be too good to pass up for most GM's.

Second you said it would force Bernie to DH which would keep Giambi in at first. This is true, but so far this year Giambi has said that his knee feels good enough to play first, and Bernie is still a little risky in CF as he gets slower. Travis Lee who we hoped would play some 1B this year when Giambi DH's is down for the year (or most of it I think) and Tony Clark isn't really that great of a hitter.

If Bernie's hitting this good now, imagine how fresh he'll be if he doesn't have to play in the field each day.

You also mentioned that Scott Boras (who seems to be representing every player in the league) doesn't usually let his players sign extentions. This is true but from what I hear he wants Beltran to TEST the market after the season, not necessarily sign with another team. Since the Yankees who have so much money would be the frontrunners for him if he didn't sign, who knows, maybe Cashman can re-sign.

Another thing I hear is negotiations for FReddy Garcia are not going well, and the Yankees are getting a little impatient in the talks for him. Talks also for Jamie Moyer, from what I hear are not going as well either. But with El Duque hopefully coming back sometime next month, we may fianlyl have 5 reliable starters.

Personally I would love to wait until the offseason to sign Beltran but if I'm George Steinbrenner, I'm frustrated about not winning since 2000. We've been so close 2 out of the 3 last years, and if I'm George, I'm thinking its Beltran that will bring us a ring this year, not just a pennant.

Hope I didn't sound too biased.

Dioner's stength is his defense, so a Pudge comparison would be the better one.(one of the reasons why he's nicknamed "Pudgito") Anyways, why give away your best prospect(s) now when you can have him for free come Free Agency.
" I look at him and it's getting to the point where it's just scaring me. He looks younger but he doesn't carry himself in a younger manner. He's impressive, and I'm glad we drafted him. "
                - Lavar Arrington on his new Redskins teammate Sean Taylor.

so i guess the lakers of the mlb arent satisfied huh? i think yankee fans should be the last ones talking bout needing to acquire a player. you pretty much damn near have gotten every mvp candidate in the AL already. but knowing the yankees, and their selfsih owner, my guess is that it ill happen. hopefully beltran wont sell out on his career and go somewhere else.

so i guess the lakers of the mlb arent satisfied huh? i think yankee fans should be the last ones talking bout needing to acquire a player. you pretty much damn near have gotten every mvp candidate in the AL already. but knowing the yankees, and their selfsih owner, my guess is that it ill happen. hopefully beltran wont sell out on his career and go somewhere else.
