I liked the format and this event was really fun but the counterarguments to having a clock are fair and understandable as well.

I don't get the issue with a clock...that's what made the ending so awesome.

There's no lag, wait time or constant pitches taken.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

Rolled my eyes at Frazier winning it, and people going on and on about the hometown guy taking the title. I just wanted to see guys crush the ball a mile, regardless of their team. But overall I enjoyed a few of the performances.

Despite the derby only lasting a little over two hours (or roughly the length of round 1 the last couple years), it broke the record for most homers hit in the home run derby.

It felt more like a contest than a glorified batting practice.

Yep, I definitely think the new derby format was a success all the way around. From the seeding, to the time limit, I thought both were great additions. I do think the time limit was probably a afterthought and they were thinking in such a hitter friendly park they needed to do something so the derby didn last all night, lol. I think they really hit on something with the new format and really made the derby even more exciting than what it already was.

But you're missing what was a magical moment in baseball. The bah-humbug stuff is fine, but that crowd was jacked up. The beauty of that event is that EVERY guy is getting balls grooved to him by HIS pitcher. It's not like one guy is throwing all the pitches and someone might be tempted to think there is some sabotage in play. Last second HR's - knowing what you had to do. Frazier was amazing when you stop and think about how tired those guys must have been getting.

I liken this to what the NBA does with the 3-point shooting contest. You can see the clock - and you know what you have to do. The MLB FINALLY captured that kind of drama...

And I heard an interview this morning driving to the office that Manfred says the 4 minute clock is probably here to stay (not the original 5 minutes). So thank the weather - and he understands that health/injury issues must also be considered, which is why the 4 minutes seemed perfect (he was on the Mike-and-Mike show on espn radio for an interview). Manfred also noted that as of right now, with the speed-of-pace rules that have been implemented, the games are on average 9 minutes shorter this season. So things are working - and yes, it sometimes helps to have a CLOCK to move things along. It's still a timeless game of 27 outs...

MLB should celebrate a great night, and the game tonight features more stars under the age of 25 than in the history of the MLB All-Star Game. As a baseball fanatic, this is an awesome time for MLB and a celebration of the sport...

One of the most exciting crowds I've ever been around. Having said that, I can't the Reds or Frazier, but it was still a great night. Glad they made tweaks to the format, even if it was for rain/storms.

Home Run Derby was awesome. I had no plans to tune in but did so rather early on after seeing my Twitter feed talking. Guys who NEVER talk baseball.

An interesting tidbit from MLB's COO; last he was watching the HRD with some guys from the MLB Network including John Smoltz. And it was John Smoltz that brought up the idea to have a timer in the Derby. Can we please get this guy a job in the League Office. And after watching the end of the Derby, from my DVR, I changed my opinion of the clock. I liked it and it should be brought into the game. Also he said that the pitch clock is working in the MiLB but didn't have the numbers. But the radio hosts found that the avg MiLB game is around 2 hours 41 minutes. And the avg going into this was 2 hrs 56 minutes or something like that. Please bring the 20 sec pitch clock to the MLB.

No way. For an exhibition contest like a Home Run Derby it's fine.

                      For actual baseball? **** no.

Re: 2015 All Star Break Thread

If they ever do have a pitch clock, make it reasonable so it'd cut out the long delays between pitches for some guys, but not really hurt the pitchers. Not saying everyone needs to have 2.5hr games like Mark Buehrle, but there are some players who do take forever to pitch.

It takes 22-23 seconds per pitch on average. Average game has about 300 total pitches. If they could find some way to reduce the average pitch time by even just 2 seconds, that makes games 10 minutes quicker right there.

It's not something you could just force right away doing something like making a 20 second pitch clock right off the bat,but I think if they ease in a pitch clock over time,it could help out alot in the long run. NHL uses AHL to test out some potential rule changes, and seeing how the MILB is using pitch clock already and has good results, hope that is something MLB will look at one day.

Recently saw a poll for NBA execs on a few things, some reporter should do that for MLB execs and see what they think on some of these topics, for all we know, pitch clocks have been talked about alot and big percentage of execs hate it. Or maybe alot of them like it.

As an Ohio guy, I grew up watching Pete Rose - and I wanted to play like him. But damn, this guy is as smug as they come. He just seems so full of himself, and I really don't believe he'll ever be reinstated in the game or make the HOF. And probably it's deserving - just wish the guy would show some humility...
