It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

How is this a catch? I thought the fielder had to stay in the field of play?

I know this is hyperbole...but what if it was 15 rows up and he scaled the seats to catch it - is that an out too?

Rizzo with the catch of the year possibly. [emoji102]

The 2015 Blue Jays are the first club in MLB history to record two 10 game or more win streaks in the same season since the 1977 Royals team that won 102 games.

Doesn't have to stay in, just have to catch it in play. Remember the famous Jeter catch where he ended a few rows into the stands a few years ago that got showed on ESPN every 30 seconds or the catch of the year by Donaldson earlier this year?

Well, I think the tarp is in "play" so you could make an argument that if the tarp wasn't there Rizzo could have stretched out into the stands to make the catch. At least that's how I would frame it if I were the Cubs.

Yeah but he caught the ball in the field of play; I quoted you before you included Josh Donaldson...his body was still "hovering" over the field so I don't mind that either.

Rizzo is literally in the stands when he catches the ball.

Honestly though...if a player is like 30 feet in the stands, standing in the dugout, maybe jumps over the bullpen in BOS and while standing catches the ball - is it an out?

He's standing on top of the concrete which is legal, not literally in the stands because he doesn't fall into the stands until after he's caught the ball.

I did think that Rizzo had to re-establish himself in the field of play before throwing it back in, but maybe that's not an MLB rule.

No, that would not be an out.

Did Rick Sutcliffe really just give Yadi credit for catching a foul tip? Like it's a skill that he has?

It's part of the contract to always give credit to Cardinals players even for the most elementary of tasks.

On Donaldson's catch this year he was completely in the air in the stands when he made that catch but it was a catch because his last established ground was in play.

Unless you mean Rizzo throwing it in before coming back into the field shouldn't have been allowed in which case I don't really know.

I am a patched umpire for Little League, which means I can work upto HS and college games. That's a catch because as has been said he was on the concrete when he caught the ball then carried over into the stands. And Jr. is right in order for him to make a double play (if it was possible) he would have to stand up climb out of the stands and then throw the ball back to the base.

That's what I was wondering. I know it's a rule in college, but I have no idea in the MLB. I don't think I've ever seen anyone throw the ball in from the stands before.
