As an attendance sport it's popularity is dropping BUT television numbers have never been better with regional broadcasts unfortunately it doesn't translate nationally.

There are some fanbases that actually do pretty well with the 20-34 age demographic such as the Jays who for the last few years have seen a steady number of people in that age group supporting the team by going to games. These were the core 15 thousand or so that would go to games over the last few years.

Only the Giants, Cardinals and Redsox sell out nearly every game. No other team is above 90% to capacity (as an average over the year).

The Yankees are 8th on the list of percent to capacity.

The reason people didn't go was likely because it's the Blue Jays. They are 27th in baseball in away percent to capacity. They just don't draw fans.

Since the Yankees moved to the new stadium they priced out the true fans. It's mostly corporate.

The thing im wondering about attendance is why more aren't going during late part of season on weekends when the games mean alot more?

Its the case for some playoff race teams but not others....

Only mentioning jays cause i know from experience what its like...Jays gonna get sellouts this upcoming weekend for sure. Their fans show up on weekends even in bad seasons. Bad season weekdays are the 17,000 crowds, but win or lose(more often when its win),their fans showup on weekends.

It's June/July/August and there is a lot of other stuff to do outside, and even though the game itself is just around 3 hours it easily becomes a full day commitment especially in places like New York City.

When school goes back the Mon-Thurs games will be pretty weakly attended, at least here in NY.

Ya,i wonder why jays arent a draw. Their fans make trip to seattle,ny,detroit, boston and stuff, but the fans of those teams dont go as much. Jays imo play exciting style of baseball. If HRs draw fans, people should be interested in seeing them, even if they're bad.

But away attendance is prob hurt cause they face bad attendance team like rays alot. Os close to bottom too. Yankees/Red sox got the rep to draw, though even yankees this year are bottom 10 road attendance

Not completely true, there's usually a strong contingent of Jays fans that go to away games. The Jays over the last 3 years have actually traveled well in terms of getting hometown fans to come out to opposing ballparks. I know when they go out to Seattle it's almost split 50/50.

Rondon works through his own jam by then striking out the side. Cubs win and sweep the champs in 4 games!

What's not true? I posted a stat not an opinion. The only teams that draw fewer fans than them are Kansas City, Houston and Tampa Bay so as you can see it obviously has nothing to do with the teams ability.

You may get a lot of people that travel but so does every other team.

I said not COMPLETELY true. I can't dispute the facts that the Jays are one of the lowest in away attendance. I'm just saying they travel very well with their fanbase is all.

Are there a lot of people in Vancouver/western Canada that are fans of the Jays? That'd explain the crazy number of Jays fans showing up in Seattle when they make the trip.. Not just a ton of people from Toronto traveling across North America. Would make sense.

Okay but I wasn't talking about fans traveling at all. I was talking about local fans who are deciding to go/not go based on the opponent.

Most every team travels well so that's not the variable that matters. Every year when I go to Baltimore and Cleveland to see the A's there are plenty of A's fans.
