Braves beating the Nats again; what happened to this in the summer?

Didn't notice until today: Shelby Miller is 5-17 with a 3.15 ERA and 3.2 fWAR.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

Let's just call it over - St. Louis Witch Doctors win the NL Central.

I think the WC location is decided too - Cubs can't pass the Pirates now.

We're 3 back with 4 to play after tonight, so it's not decided quite yet.

What an odd day, the Jays killed the O's to win the East, can't celebrate properly and have a bunch of scrubs in the 2nd game of the doubleheader get blown out and now they're celebrating like crazy.

Pittsburgh will more than likely finish with the 2nd best record in baseball, and just to make it to the division series, they'll have to win an elimination game against Jake Arrieta.

              Tough.

And the RedSox spoil again. No 10K for the Yankees. Also 6 game winning streak and 2 games under .500.

The fact that two of the top three teams in baseball (currently) will have to play in an elimination game is absolutely amazing to me.

Sure is. But I don't know what you do about it other than make it like hockey/basketball and basically make the divisions meaningless.

This has just been a really strange year for the NL, and the Central in particular.

                        You're welcome.

Also looking at the draft order as of today (@ 1:45 PM). But there are 16 teams under .500. That's sad, over half of the teams in the league are under .500.

I've never been a fan of the second wild card team but because it's added interest I don't foresee it going anywhere.

I did hear a really interesting idea the other day though, and maybe this would be better posted in the OT forum but since the conversation is here I'll leave it here.

It's that the wild card series should be a 2 game series where the second wild card team has to win both games. If the first wild card team wins the first or second game, they move on to the division series.

Now I thought long and hard about that because it came from just a caller into a radio show which here in Pittsburgh is normally a wast to listen to.

But After I thought about it for awhile, it actually makes a lot of sense to me.

Wanted to get your guys thoughts on that though because it piqued my interest.

I dunno, I could see the fans of the 2nd WC team screaming bitterly especially if you get into a situation where the 2nd WC team won a game convincingly and then the next game the 1st WC team had to win in extra innings.

Honestly, there's no good solution other than a 5 game series.

It's definitely out there like you kinda alluded to. But honestly I like the idea of the second WC team because it puts an emphasis on winning your division. Which I personally like. Also how would that 2 games series work as far where the games are played? Would it be home and home or 2 for the 1st WC team? Would it be back-to-back days? But like you I need some more to think it over, before I make a final decision on it.

But does the second wild card team have an argument about that assuming they are at least one game behind the first wild card team going into that game (I'm not sure how it works if the top two wild card teams are tied at seasons end)?

It would eliminate a team being able to ride an ace into that game to get them into the division series and require they win two high leverage games.
