Re: 9/14 - 10/4 Game Discussion Thread
You're naive if you think Boras is truly beholden to his clients. Yes, his clients may say what they want to some degree but Boras drives the bus especially with any of his younger clients who are looking for a HUGE pay day. More often than not players don't want to deal with the business side of the game and leave it up to their agents to do everything.OSHA Inspector for the NBA.Comment

Except when he doesn't...As mentioned above Drew and Morales lost a lot of money and in the case of Drew it pretty much screwed up his career as he's never been the same since.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: 9/14 - 10/4 Game Discussion Thread
Oh yea I understand that. What am I was getting was at is that most teams outside of the Dodgers, Astros and for now Blue Jays all need a SS. And Bogaerts would be a great to sign when he gets to FA. He is going to be 27 when he reaches FA. He is showing power potential at a position that typically doesn't produce power hitters. And Boras is already saying that Bogaerts is just as good as, if not better than Derek Jeter. So I am worried that he is going to inflate this kid's ego or whatever and there will be no contract signed before he hits FA in 5 years.Comment

I said a good chance, Boras has definitely overplayed his hand before. But some of the best prospect in the game don't gravitate to him for nothing.OSHA Inspector for the NBA.Comment

Re: 9/14 - 10/4 Game Discussion Thread
Ya. It's nice to not see the usuals in the same spotlight again.
Of the 10 teams in playoffs right now, Yankees and Cards are the only ones who've won the WS in the past 20 years!
Cubs haven't since 1908,Rangers/Astros never won it,Pirates haven't since 79,Royals haven't since 85,Mets since 86,Dodgers since 88,Jays since 93.
Obviously I'd prefer Jays in the WS, but even if they're not, just not having Yankees or Cards in it,would be nice. Cubs-Astros even would be a nice thing to see. Knowing there isn't a single person out there who has seen either team win a WS. Biasedly, I'd wanna see Jays vs anyone in WS. Unbiasedly, Astros vs Cubs or Pirates.Last edited by Majingir; 10-04-2015, 09:41 PM.Comment

Even in the division playoff era, you had the Giants win 103 in 1993 and miss the playoffs.Comment

1985,Royals won the WS, but weren't even the 2nd beat team in the AL. Even in 84,they didn't win WS,but made playoffs, despite being 6th in the AL.
87,Twins won the WS, but had 4 less wins than the 4th place Yankees(and Jays had 2nd best record in the MLB,but missed playoffs)
90 Reds won WS,but Mets had same record(and didn't make playoffs)
93 Giants like you mentioned,103 wins,2nd best team in baseball, didn't make playoffs
And now history of game changed so much for the better, due to adding more playoff teams.Last edited by Majingir; 10-04-2015, 10:06 PM.Comment

Ya, the pre-WC era really had lots of good teams miss out.

Re: 9/14 - 10/4 Game Discussion Thread
I like it more. Look at today for example, so many scenarios still possible on final day of season cause of not just 1,but 2 WC spots. More fanbases are interested at a later point in the season cause of 1 extra playoff spot.
All it took was having 1 "play in" game, and they boosted interest among several diff fanbases for many extra games in September.
This regular season even, who knows if Jays go after Tulo or Price if it was just 1WC spot, or if Rangers go after Hamels. Both were 3 games closer to playoffs(instead of 6GB,Jays were 3. Instead of 8GB,Rangers were 5) due to there being 2WC spots and not just 1. Now both are division winners.Comment

At the end of the day it's entertainment and a business so I get why they want to generate interest, but I don't need fake playoff berths (and no, I don't consider the WC play in game a playoff game) to keep me interested. My team sucked hard this year and yet I was into it and followed them as much if not more than ever."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. Re: 9/14 - 10/4 Game Discussion Thread
That's fine...it's here to stay and I guess folks do like it, but I am against anything that devalues the regular season. I don't care if a "fan base" is into it late in the season, etc, I want to see the best teams play for the championship. How will you feel if the Yankees knock out the Royals and the Blue Jays on their way to the Series bass on a hot 3 weeks? The Blue Jays showed over 162 games they are a better team than New York - the outcome of some short series doesn't change that for me. If I had my druthers we'd still not have divisions and the top team from each league would play in the World Series.

If Yankees beat Royals and Jays I'll hate it. Only cause they're the Yankees. If any other team like Astros or Rangers did that, then they obviously earned it,winning 7 games vs the 2 top teams in the AL in a 3 week timespan.Last edited by Majingir; 10-04-2015, 11:33 PM.Comment

Re: 9/14 - 10/4 Game Discussion Thread
Didn't say I'm a fan of the 1 game playoff, but I am a fan of having more playoff teams. 5 teams with 2 playing 1 game playoff is really the furthest MLB can go without it getting to NBA/NHL level(where it's 8 teams per conference).
