Re: 2015 MLB Hot Stove thread
I don't see how Oakland goes after him. The offer rumored for Cespedes at the moment is 90M for 5 years, that's 18M a year. That seems like too much cash for the A's for a guy already 30 years old.
As for the 'stros, they seem to have a full outfield already. Would have to move an OF.Boston Red Sox

Yeah, getting Cespedes as that middle of the order bat who can add energy to the ballclub would be a great thing for the 'Stros although he would replace Carter as the whiff king at the plate.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Apparently the Tigers made a run at Chris Davis to play LF until he decided to go back to Baltimore. They are in on Cespedes as well.Comment

Re: 2015 MLB Hot Stove thread
It is a lot of money for them and they rarely overpay BUT when they do they it's for someone that makes a lot of sense.
They overpaid Chavez (66 over 6) just to keep him in an A's uniform and refused to resign players like Zito, and Giambi (to name a few) which turned out to be the right decisions as hard as they were to make at the time.
Holliday was never going to re-sign with them so I think the dumbest move they ever made was trading cargo to get him as a quick rental but oh well.
You're right to say that's a lot of money for the A's but I think you're wrong to flat out dismiss them since he (for whatever reason) loved it in Oakland and as you said any team would love to have him.Comment

I cant believe the Jays are going to arbitration with Donaldson over $450,000... Just pay the man, he's the damn MVP.

Re: 2015 MLB Hot Stove thread
It is a little strange, considering he's asking for less than they're paying RA Dickey. But i'm sure Donaldson is used to teams screwing with him at this point. A's paid him $500K after he finished 4th in MVP voting.Last edited by dubcity; 01-18-2016, 04:35 PM.Comment

Don't be too surprised if they are one of the teams interested.

Re: 2015 MLB Hot Stove thread
I put it at number two on my list currently because the Donaldson trade at least has room for returns still. The Holiday trade was just a horrible disaster of a rental.Oakland Athletics San Jose Sharks

Re: 2015 MLB Hot Stove thread
I thought they made an offer to Beltre in that range.
Last year, the Jays should have extended Donaldson after they won arbitration last season. There was a big difference last season in arb submissions and the Jays could have rode that to a team favorable extension.Comment
