So then I guess that team will win the World Series in Japan?

Actually....I think you're right. Wheeler is in line for a June return to play with a July return to the MLB.

I wonder if Maddon might toy with this to lighten the workload on Arrieta this year. The Cubs certainly have enough starters for it.

I don't like the idea of 6 man rotations. Just the thought of a starter possibly sitting out 7 days is too much for me.

If the concern is workload I would rather see teams bump the entire rotation back a day with a spot start every now and again when they go a long period without a day off.

Yeah, I'm not sure how I feel about it. I mean, it's how college works, and I think some minor league staffs go 1 start per week, so it's not like guys aren't used to it. But do you want a guy you are paying $20M per year to only play 27 times all season?

I'm with you and especially because of that last point.

If the concern is wear and tear I think there are creative ways to avoid it without going to a six man rotation or a spot starter every fourth start.

That's why I preferred to be a reliever in college, I would go crazy knowing my only chance to play was every weekend. Got to relieve on weekends and the occasional spot start during the week.

They'll go back to a 5 man rotation by the All-Star Break IMO.

Maddon used a 6 man rotation with the Rays pretty much every September when they were in playoff contention. Did it to rest the arms for the postseason and to get an extra look at the youngsters. Both David Price and Matt Moore were called up during stretches where the Rays were going to the playoffs and were using the 6 man rotation.

Probably won't happen but Ian Desmond would fit in really nicely in the Rays lineup... I would like to see it happen... 1 year deal or something like that.

They would make some noise with this new power Offense.

There is NO CHANCE that happens. Ken Rosenthal just did a nice piece on this topic. Because of the new draft pool system and the QO system. There is a very, very, very small chance this happens. Because the Rays don't want to give up that 1 (13) pick and all of the pool money that goes along with it.

Yea I saw that, sucks for teams like the Rays... This needs to get fixed with the new CBA.

The QO system seemed like a good idea at the time. (it really was a good way to allow Free Agency in theory but gives the leg up to the team that had the player's rights) This definitely needs to be addressed in some way in the new CBA.

As for Desmond and the Rays, I had heard a week or two ago that the Rays had some interest in him but I guess they changed their mind.

There's interest from the Rays and Desmond has said he'd like to play with the Rays... But the Fox Sports link is the problem.

                                Agreed.
But to play devils advocate, someone might ask whether you'd want 27 quality and fresh starts, compared to 35 tired, dinged-up starts.

It'll be interesting to watch over the course of the season.
Especially if some of the pitchers hate it.
