Re: 2015 MLB Hot Stove thread
I'd assume the funky delivery, and the fact that only recently he was good against lefties. He was a righty specialist before he pitched well as a set up guy
I like him as a 7th/8th inning guy, but he'd make a great closer.Comment

Jays, Dodgers and Yanks are in active talks with the Indians for an OF in exchange for one of Cleveland's starting pitchers. Hopefully on the Jays end it's more along the lines of dangling Pompey rather than Pillar as the scuttlebutt suggests.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: 2015 MLB Hot Stove thread
Ya, really hoping it's Pompey instead of Pillar going in that deal. And it's Carrasco and not Salazar coming back. Just think, Jays top 3SP next year, could be making under 17M combined. 2 of which got Cy Young votes this year. Getting a guy like that, don't see how it won't tempt management to actually pay abit for a free agent starter knowing that the rest of their rotation are all making a fairly low combined salary, which sort of helps justify paying abit more for a starter.Comment

I am though simply cause the rumors back in July were the Jays offering Pompey in a deal for Carrasco, and Jays at one point in time thinking the deal was real close to happening(and if it did,Tulo and Price deals wouldn't have happened) If they're talking again regarding an OF going to Cleveland for a SP, I'm hoping they'd revisit that.Comment

Re: 2015 MLB Hot Stove thread
I never saw it with Heyward. I mean, the defense is there and according to WAR he is a very good player, but on offense he has never impressed me. I want my 6'5" 250 lb. lefty hitting corner outfielder that is going to earn a king's ransom to hit more than around 15 home runs per year and have a better SLG than a shade above .400 or so. He just screams, "Buyer beware!" to me. I know what WAR and the other advanced stats say, but he just doesn't pass the dreaded eye test IMO.
Not that anybody cares...and frankly, I don't care if anybody does.
I took off from work the day that Heyward debuted as I was so ecstatic to see him. I was at my dad's house watching the game and I literally jumped up and screamed at the TV when he hit the HR. Perfect call by Chip Caray too.

It saddens me to see how far our organization has gone in the past 6 years.
I think Heyward will probably fetch around $180MM without doubt; the only fear I have with him is that he can get an injury bug that will hamper him all year. I still think Chipper messed his swing up in 2011 which caused such a huge downshift.
He may not produce the RF numbers we expect from the 90s or 2000s but his production shouldn't be discredited. His baserunning ability (what a joy to watch him go 1st-3rd), defense, arm...it's spectacular. I think, with the right hitting coach, they may finally get him back to the famous batter's eye and power potential he showed as a rookie.Last edited by Speedy; 11-19-2015, 05:44 PM.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.
It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.Comment

Re: 2015 MLB Hot Stove thread
I didn't go to class the day Jason Heyward debuted. One of the more memorable sports memories I have. I wouldn't trade it for the world.
I don't think he'll ever be the offensive threat we thought he'd be but he's still only 26 so you never know. Had a pretty good offensive season this year and had the most hits and most doubles he's had thus far. Pretty good is not worth 200 million though but someone will pony up I'm sure.
The thing I love most about Heyward is his background. He's disciplined. He's not a ****head. Comes from a stable home. High character. That goes a long way in my book, even though it doesn't mean much to most people anymore.Comment

Don't think Samardzija's going to get paid like a #5. Someone will see a #3/4 and pay him accordingly. Probably $12-15MM a year for 3-4 years. Way too rich for a #5.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

I think Heyward is the type of guy who puts it together around his age 28-29 season and have a few years of very good numbers. I don't think he's going to ever be the power bat that everyone expected early on but he's going to be the kind of guy you can count on in big situations.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
