Re: 2015 MLB Hot Stove thread

So...anybody want to predict some blockbuster trades or out-of-the-blue FAs signings thru the winter meetings?

Man if people think Schwarber or Russell are going to be moved this offseason I don't know what to tell you except that it's not happening. The more likely guys to be dealt are Baez, Castro, and/or Soler.

        I see Castro leaving.

I'll bet Cop (that's his [Braves GM] name now - I ain't looking up how to spell it anymore) will trade for him.

You mean a bold prediction? Because there's a thread already for that.

Yeah, Addy ain't going nowhere (like my double negative?). But seriously, no.

As an aside, although it would probably be Soler+ to get Carrasco, I wonder what Miami wants for J-Fern? Also, is he the "knucklehead" that he's being made out to be, or are the Marlins just Marlinsing?

I don't think it's all Fernandez...I think the majority of it is his agent.

It sure does seem like the Marlins are running a media smear campaign on Fernandez and Ozuna (both of which happen to be Boras clients). It doesn't really make sense, but hey it's Miami! If everyone KNOWS you want to get rid of someone, it ruins your leverage. This is exactly what Miami seems to be doing to themselves.

Yeah, I can't see it either, but I think that's what it takes for Carrasco honestly. Some of these packages are very, very light.

I like the Chavez deal a lot, very fair for both teams.

So lemme get this straight; we won't trade Maybin when his value is at it's peak, but we'll trade him for two bum relievers in the offseason?

Not too happy with the Chavez-Hendriks deal, cause Hendriks was solid in the bullpen, probably 3rd or 4th best reliever for Jays this past year. Not to mention is 6 years younger than Chavez.

Chavez would be good for 5th spot in rotation,if not, then basically just replacing Hendriks role in the bullpen. But if he's 5th spot in rotation, then either Hutchison moves to bullpen,or they'll trade him. Cause no way Jays rotation next year is Estrada,Stroman,Dickey,Hutchison,Chavez.

What I heard about Chavez is he is going to fill Estrada's role from last year. Start off in the bullpen and then move into the rotation.

No, that was LaCava saying he hoped it worked out in the same way. Chavez will start, he's a very good starter and will contribute more than Hendriks would have.

Re: 2015 MLB Hot Stove thread

What I'm thinking about the deal is that it's easier to fill bullpen holes than it is rotation ones, cause rotation guys obviously gonna cost a fairly big price, but bullpen guys outside of closers don't exactly make alot. Fill a rotation hole for just under 5M, and create a relief hole that could be fixed in free agency for cheaper(if not using someone like Hutchison to replace Hendriks role).

They obviously still need to get at least 1 more starter in the rotation. 2 if the speculation about them wanting to move Dickey is true.

The way I see it right now:
                                1.Stroman
                                2.Estrada
                                3.TBD
                                4.Dickey or TBD
                                5.Chavez

If the price is right in free agency and they're able to get 2 good guys for a reasonable price(35M combined I'd say), then go ahead and deal Dickey.
