Probably because he's a midwest guy and he's had his best success with the Cubs.

I guess it's just cause of his history with Shapiro. Hopefully if he is Jays GM, he has more of those good deals(and draft picks) over bad ones, cause some of those bad ones were real costly.

Though I don't believe in all his years as GM, he's ever had a team with a payroll over 80M? So if he ends up in Toronto, with a potential payroll around twice as much as he's used to having, hope that'd lead to good results.
          Good Deals:
-Traded Troy Glaus in deal where DBacks got Orlando Hudson(who went on to win 2GG with DBacks and made ASG). A deal Jays fans hated at the time cause Hudson was huge fan fave. Though easy to let that one slide now, cause Glaus eventually lead to getting Encarnacion.

-Got Huston Street for PTBNL(who never played in MLB)

-Traded Mat Latos and got Yonder Alonso,Brad Boxberger,Yasmani Grandal and Edinson Volquez

-Got Tyson Ross for basically nothing

-Got Ian Kennedy for Matt Stites and Joe Thatcher

          Worst deals:
Traded Jose Valverde in deal where best player they got back was Chad Qualls
Giving up Brett Anderson,Chris Carter,Carlos Gonzalez among others for Dan Haren
Giving up Max Scherzer in deal where DBacks got Ian Kennedy and Edwin Jackson back
Traded Anthony Rizzo in deal for Andrew Cashner
Traded Brad Boxberger and Logan Forsythe in deal for Jesse Hahn and Alex Torres

          Notable picks:
          Max Scherzer,Brett Anderson,Josh Collmenter,Wade Miley,Paul Goldschmidt,AJ Pollock,Adam Eaton

                5. Boston Red Sox

The Red Sox would have to essentially punt on Pablo Sandoval, whom they owe $59.8 million, to clear room for Frazier. But if they're willing to eat a large chunk of that, maybe a National League team like the Padres or Brewers take a chance on him. The Red Sox are obviously going for it in 2016; do they want to count on Sandoval bouncing back from a -0.9 WAR season? Even after the Craig Kimbrel trade, the farm system still has plenty of talent with players like left-hander Brian Johnson or third baseman Michael Chavis who could interest the Reds.

At the right price, I'd rather have Samardzija back as our 5th guy than the revolving door we had this season.

I never saw it with Heyward. I mean, the defense is there and according to WAR he is a very good player, but on offense he has never impressed me. I want my 6'5" 250 lb. lefty hitting corner outfielder that is going to earn a king's ransom to hit more than around 15 home runs per year and have a better SLG than a shade above .400 or so. He just screams, "Buyer beware!" to me. I know what WAR and the other advanced stats say, but he just doesn't pass the dreaded eye test IMO.

^this makes me wonder what the plan is in Chicago...

There's no doubt the bullpen needs help, and there aren't many pieces like this to add to it.

I am also aware the offseason has only just begun...but they have some big issues to address, not just SP.

Strop and Rondon is one of the best late inning combos in the game, but they're not so good to obviate the need for another piece.

They signed a minor league reliever

Darwin Barney maybe could get a contract offer from Jays I'd imagine. Cause outside of him, there aren't really so many great options for a backup 2B in free agency. Rule 5 draft could be another route they also take. Get a guy for short term, and if Travis ends up coming back around April or something, just let the guy go back to his own team, don't have to pay him anything more.
