Pirates have not had the same Opening Day first baseman in consecutive seasons since Adam LaRoche from 2007-09

I've always liked them considering my Canadian roots, but they were always behind the Tigers (only 45min drive to the D).

I'm in agreement with DrJones in that I believe the Jays window has maybe 2 more years before it's closed.
I would have gone all in with Price and then prayed he opted-out after 3 seasons.
That's all that would have been needed to either succeed in winning it all, or having the window shut and he leaves for greener pastures.

When AA did his end of season presser he explicitly said they were planning to give Price an offer. That certainly bucked the trend of AA's usual coyness. I have to believe that he felt he could persuade ownership to go along with a 7 year deal and if the money was in the right ballpark MAYBE Price would pause and think about it. Either way, the way the Red Sox broke the bank for him I doubt the Jays would have a shot.

That being said, if this report is true than the fact that the Jays DIDN'T even give Price an offer is just downright disappointing. At least make it look good by saying "hey we offered him something. He chose to go elsewhere." I'm telling you, little things like that are going to be thrown in Shapiro and Co. faces if the 2016 season is a disappointment.

I hate the hire already. Toronto is turning into Cleveland North.

He's just a Shapiro/LaCava yes man. They're doing something similar to the Leafs. Also, Cleveland on a $140 million budget is great. They did a lot of good things there without any money, at all.

Anthopoulos' comments if he was still GM and Price turned him down:

"Well, we made what we felt was a competitive offer to David, and unfortunately things didn't play out the way we wanted them to. We felt we offered a strong annual value in spite of the lack of years given, and were very surprised when David told us he was moving in another direction. However, we have lots of balls in the air right now, and we feel extremely confident in our internal options such as [insert 14 year old in Dominican Summer League.] I'm extremely excited about the team moving forward, and will look to address this through free agent deals that fit within our internal evaluations, or trades that help us improve as an organization."

Likely offer made: 4 years, $78 million

I'm hoping you're right because i'm telling you, the kind of moves Shapiro is orchestrating can be easily used by the less enlightened fans as weapons of their frustration.

I actually like what they did with the rotation so far though i'm kind of hoping for a young controllable arm with upside at some point. Still, i'm a bit frustrated at just how Cleveland-centric some of these hires have been. Wedge and now Atkins and the fact that they didn't even make an offer to Price are things that lead to frustration especially if they don't make any kind of splash in Free Agency or trade.

There's no point in making an offer to Price if we're not offering up to what everyone else is. That's what AA does. Wedge is puzzling but those hires don't mean much. Trevor Bauer would be a nice trade target but there's not a ton of room for him. I like that theyre targeting cheap power arms for the pen.

Apparently, Samardzija or Leake are San Francisco's Plan B if Grienke stays in LA.

I'm hoping that's their Plan A, really. Two pitchers is always better than one for me. I love Leake. Indifferent on Samardzija.

Really would love for them to break the bank on Heyward, though. If I had it my way, it would be Leake & Heyward, and call it an offseason.
