Re: Who's worse: Tim McCarver or Joe Morgan?

McCarver was a good colour guy a LOOOONG time ago. I remember his work during the '91 World Series and he was actually pretty good. I don't know what the heck happened to him. I guess he got told by the FOX people to dumb down things for their audiences.

Joe Morgan can get on some people's nerves but he does make good points at times. He and Miller have good chemistry in the booth which is something you can't say about Buck and McCarver. You can really tell they don't like each other much.

I would love to see a Sunday Night Baseball booth with Dan Shulman and Tony Gwynn. I really miss Shulman in Toronto and Gwynn has become a very good colour guy.

Joe Buck and Tim McMCarver are the worst commentators to walk the face of the earth. I can't stand either of them.

Morgan can just be dense at times but like someone pointed out he and Miller have pretty good chemistry.

Ahhh Michael Kay. Makes me want to dislodge my eardrums when listening to him. But nonetheless he's still not as bad as Joe "lets state the obvious and never shut up about me being a former catcher and tell bad stories that span 8 pitches" Girardi.

Tim McCarver is also pretty bad as he also gets a lot of info wrong. I like Joe Buck.... I like Jon Miller... I Like Chris Berman.... and I don't mind Joe Morgan although he never gets excited during big points in the game.

Girardi states the obvious, but he also makes lots of good points too.

Kay tries to state the obvious, but he usually gets that wrong too.

Kay's play by play is annoying by itself. But it gets absolutely horrible when he decides to start trying to pretend he knows anything about baseball.

Whenever Kay tries to say something that remotely sounds like baseball he ends up making a complete fool of himself.

And his homerun call? It makes me want to gouge my eardrums out with a spoon.

Last night, Joe Morgan, 6 times in the first 3 innings he said... "The Yankees are a homerun hitting team and need to hit homeruns to win tonight."

6 times! My god man do you think all of the viewers are deaf? Or stupid? Or both? Either find something else to talk about, or shut your yap every now and then.

I've listened to McCarver since I was a little kid watching the Mets on WOR and I really don't understand what everyone's problem is with him. The role of the color announcer is to colorfully provide insight into the game. I think this is something he does superbly... you may not agree with what he has to say, but at least he isn't afraid to say it. And coming from a guy who once caught Bob Gibson and enjoyed a career that nearly spanned 4 decades, I think I can state comfortably that he knows more about baseball than any person who posts on this forum.

I agree that he knows more about baseball than anyone on the boards, and he did have a long career catching some of the greats but that doesn't translate into him being a good color commentator. Some of the best announcers are guys who were not stars but sat on the bench and soaked up the enviroment of a MLB clubhouse. So his career really doesn't help him in being an announcer.
