    Re: Yankees-Red Sox ALCS Thread

Has anyone come to the realization that Lowe will be far better in the post season? Sometimes its the case that breaking ball pitchers perform better with fatigue as it helps them keep the ball down. If thats the case with Lowe and thats what last night was then he might be gold for the series. Maybe he doesnt do well in the regular season because he gets too much rest?

He was pitching on 2 days rest but I doubt he was fatigued. He had only pitched 10 2/3 innings since sept 23rd which is almost a month. For some reason his command has been much better in this series. His sinker has been sharp and he's throwing his fastball for strikes. The lead helped him out a lot last night as well. Going down early like that forces hitters to press a little more. The Yankees were swinging at any strike rather than waiting for their pitches.

OK, maybe fatigued was not the best word but I meant it as opposed to rested. Maybe there is an area in between rested and fatigued that is more applicable. Nevertheless, the point remains about him getting too much rest in a 5 man rotation and now that Boston is in the playoffs it will mean he will perform better.

                  Red Sox announced their rotation.

                  Game 1: Wakefield
                  Game 2: Schilling
                  Game 3: Pedro
                  Game 4: Lowe

                  I stand corrected...

EDIT - It looks like this was decided before Game 7.
"I'm starting Game 1," Wakefield told the paper after Wednesday night's win. "They told me if I didn't get in the game, I'm starting Game 1 of the World Series."

No, Lowe is just about getting focused. Somehow in the playoffs, the game slows down for him more when he realizes every pitch matters. He had that mentality 2 years ago and won like 20 games.
