The Yankees are just another baseball team, there is no "unbreakable aura" around them otherwise they would have won the World Series last year. The job of the Red Sox is to win one of the first two games, split on the road and take 2 out 3 at home. They got to game seven last year with Pedro Martinez, Derek Lowe, Tim Wakefield, and John Burkett as their starters. Right now, Arroyo is better than both Burkett and Lowe of a year ago and Schilling normally would be but he is injured and can't be counted on for the rest of the series. Let the players do the talking because no one on these boards is going to decide the series.Comment

It's funny how personal people make this and other sports rivalries. I am a huge Sox and Bills fans so trust me I know how it feels to be the butt of jokes, and most of it is pretty funny, but I really get a kick out of people who actually act like they are better because they root for the winning team. It's hilarious you don't play for the team nor have any influence on the outcome of the game. Most fans (of either team) can barely get off the couch let alone hit a 90+ fastball.Comment

But yea... people do take sports so seriously(even I do, and I will admit it) when it's nothing more than a mere game to keep us entertained while we sit for three hours eating cheese doodles and pizza and drinking beer or soda.
It's pretty darn entertaining.. but man.. do we, as fans, defend our favorite teams to the death or what? :OComment

Re: Yankees-Red Sox ALCS Thread
I see the Red Sox winning this one tonight. I have a feeling that we won't get 5 innings out of Leiber. Pedro won't be great, but he'll do good enough. Red Sox 8 Yankees 4
I hope I'm wrong though.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: Yankees-Red Sox ALCS Thread
All of a sudden let the players do the talkin. Nobody on these boards is going to decide the series.
Sounds like someone who shouldn't be posting in this thread If they can't take the heat. This is the greatest rivalry in sports. You have passionate fans of both teams posting, some may be more passionate then others. This isn't the regular season. This is for the right to represent the American League in the "World Series"Comment

Originally posted by BakesYeah i guess thats part of the excitement, you want your team to win not just to win but to have some smack to talk to the other teams fans. Unfortunately even if the Sox win it this year they will have to win the next 27 world series to ever get through the "yeah well we still won 20+ more world championships!" line.
I think Sox fans would be too happy with just finally seeing their team win a title to care. In fact, I think the rivalry between the teams itself might cool down just a tad if the Sox win it all. Sure, it'd still be heated, but it won't have the oomph from the '1918' chants being gone for the most part.Comment
