Re: The DH Argument....
The all-time leader for home runs by a pitcher was Wes Farrell. He had 38.

Re: The DH Argument....
His 162 game average for HR's per year would be 11.
Do I need to start reeling off the ZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz's on "real" hitters who can't hit that many?!

You can if the percentage is higher than pitchers who can't hit that many.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: The DH Argument....
The opposite side of the "pitchers don't hit well" coin is the fact that DHs don't field. I mean...dude just hits and then sits on the bench? C'mon man...Comment

Re: The DH Argument....
Once again (as I've said it in other threads), should they ever choose to give the NL a DH, they better provide a two-year window at the very least for teams to prepare themselves for that. Their teams are not built like AL teams, plain and simple. Give them a bit of wiggle room so they can prepare themselves for it, as opposed to throwing it on them the same off-season they decide for it to come over.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: The DH Argument....
Just saw an interesting point on Reddit, in the AL we have the option of the DH but aren't forced to use it. If a team wanted to hit their pitcher they could. So it's really just better all around, Bumgarner could hit on the days he pitches and then DH on in between days if he wanted lol, it's a win win.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: The DH Argument....
Oh for sure, just that there's no downsides to the AL side. If you wanted to handicap your lineup with a bad hitter like many NL fans are inclined, they will still have that option when the DH overlords mandate it. Everyone wins.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: The DH Argument....
So no, the Giants do not have a sorry roster. They don't have much depth in their bench (more in a utility/role-playing sense), but they don't have a DH-like player because they are not in a league with a DH! This goes back to the point that if this happens, there better be a bit of a window regarding when it gets put in. The Giants, as well as every other NL team, do not have their organization built with the DH in mind.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: The DH Argument....
Bumgarner against the other team's pitcher is probably better than their DH option against the other team's DH option. At least, that's why they would do such a move.

I just think the idea that the DH is an "option" is stupid...of course you are going to use it and not bat the pitcher, even if it is Bumgarner."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers HornsbyComment
