Well they had Greinke for the last few seasons and that didn't turn into any championships, should they just have signed both Greinke and Price? It's not that simple. The Yankees are learning this now, you can't keep signing guys to huge long term deals and then rinse and repeating every 5 years. You give the wrong guy a deal and suddenly you've got a team with no mobility until the contracts run out. At some point, you have to take some time to start over.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

On a completely unrelated note to signing guys that aren't worth the money for long term deals and crippling your franchises short and long term mobility...Ellsbury has a slash line of .262/.321/.368 in his last 162 and is signed for 21 mil through his age 36 season in 2020, with a 5 mil buyout in 2021.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Man that contract sucks...not gunna lie mine wouldn't have been that much better. I was
more than willing to go 5 yrs. $100M for him. I never thought he would've fallen off this fast.

Re: 5/31 - 6/12 Game Discussion Thread
The projection systems had them penciled in as one of the best teams in the league entering the season and they've still actually played quite well even though it's not showing up in their overall record. And as you keep pointing out, they still have a massive payroll, so they clearly are putting their resources to use.
Stop beating around the bush and put that limitless payroll to use.
Oh, and this is probably where I should mention that the Dodgers are looking ahead to 2018, when Clayton Kershaw and Bryce Harper are simultaneously going to be free agents. The $300 million they didn't spend on Price or Greinke will go a long way to helping them get one or the other...or both.
The Dodgers are really no better than the Angels in the sense of letting their superstar sort of twist in the wind until everything hopefully works out someday. By the time the payroll works out, Clayton Kershaw will probably be on the wrong side of 30.
Yeah, I'd say they're nothing like the Angels, who are the real team in LA who aren't doing enough to help their superstar. It's basically Trout and the 24 dwarves there. They're one of the worst teams in baseball if it weren't for him.I write things on the Internet.
