It depends on which team emerges from the break--the April/May version or the June/July version. If the early season mojo comes back, nobody has a chance to catch them. If the recent team is the real version, then the Cubs will finish in 3rd place and miss the playoffs--a choke job that would be impressive even for the Chicago Cubs.
Oh no doubt, but as an outsider it'd be something very intriguing to watch. I can't imagine how you as a fan of the Cubs would feel. I was too young to really know/understand the Jays' collapse of '87 so I don't have a feel for it but I imagine it would be a strain on the mind and heart.

It WILL be interesting to see how this Cubs team responds in the 2nd half though.

Wrong when you said their bad start in 2016 was predictable and so on. There are many more examples that I don't care to list.

But ok, you were right. Right about as often as a broken clock.
Nope, I said their early season success wasn't sustainable, and as thE 2nd half showed it was not. Kuechel BABIP'd his was to a Cy Young, I stand by what I said about him. And this season proves it. I said last year that he was not a sub 3 ERA pitcher, he's a solid #3 in a good rotation, nothing more.

I said coming into this season that the Astros would be a .500 team or slightly above. Even I was surprised by their early season struggles, I knew they weren't THAT bad. But fact remains that Altuve, Springer, and Correa need help in that lineup the other 6 guys are streaky and inconsistent. As for your rotation, well it can be hit or miss on any given day. All though, I really like McCullers, and think he will turn into an ace in the near future. If I were the Astros I'd hope Kuechel has a decent 2nd half then trade him for a few prospects. Also, if I never hear Valbuena's name again it will be too soon, he kills us more than anyone in your lineup for some reason.

In a way the M's and Astros are carbon copies, outside of our big three's our lineups are streaky and inconsistent. Mariners have the better rotation (When healthy)Astros have the better 'pen, all though Diaz is probably the best pitcher is either right now.

That is my honest unbiased take on the 'Stros.

Going to be a fun and exciting 2nd half of the season.
Never say never with the Cubs, if there is a way to break the hearts of their fans they will find it.

Biggest lead of any division leader.. still.

It was unrealistic to think to play a month straight w/no rest and replace a good amount of lineup with AAA bats they would keep up the legendary pace. They still have holes but like many do but I really think the rest will help.

Hopefully our fielding will be better in the 2nd half of the season. At the break we currently lead the majors with 68 errors.
