That was Betts' 22nd homer. In his first two seasons combined he hit 23.

Also Benintendi is getting the call, completely skipping Pawtucket.

But I really feel like Yankees "rebuild" is just gonna end with Yankees trading these prospects, getting big players again, and then signing top players for huge amount of money and be a typical Yankees team all over again.
From what I understand, Cashman wanted to rebuild for a while, but Hal thought they could contend. then Hal had front row seats for the Tampa sweep, and changed his mind.

Miller didn't seem like he was going anywhere, and rightfully so, during the Yankees wining streak, but I think it finally clicked with Hal, that this team is just treading water.

I think you'll see the Yankees grow some of their prospects and then trade some for ml ready players. Cashman is pretty brilliant, as he has orchestrated this whole thing, and I'm confident in him.

It's all about stockpiling prospects trying these guys out with nothing to lose, and shedding payroll for the monster 2018 fa class.

The NL Central race has taken a turn for the better. After giving the Cards a bit of hope going into the Break, the Cubs are back to winning at a good clip. They've won 4 series and split the other 4 games with the White Sox since the ASG. At 23 games over .500, they are just 4 games shy of their high water mark set back in June (27 over). More importantly, the starting rotation (not you, Matusz) looks night and day better than before the break.

Add to that the Cards losing Aledmys Diaz for a while and not doing much at the trade deadline and STL is looking more like Wild Card only once again.

Chicago has a pretty soft schedule this month with a key 4-game series at Wrigley against those pesky birds starting a week from Thursday.

Yes the team that has 27 championships should follow the model of a team that hasn't won anything in over a 100 years.

Not to mention that they don't even *need* to do that considering they only traded 3 players and got like 10 prospects out of it, and have guys like Tanaka and Gregorious and Castro that they can keep and oh yeah, have tons of money coming off the books soon enough and have tons of money to play with regardless.

"Full rebuilds" are for loser teams with losing cultures. Teams with that pedigree don't lose on purpose for years and years and have fanbases that just sit there and take it.

Oh my...the hyperbole is strong with this one. In 2007/2008 the Cubs were in the playoffs (and a WS favorite in 208). They were meh in 2009/2010...the full on rebuild didn't start until 2012, so they sucked for 3 seasons. People need to stop with the teams tanking for a decade nonsense.

Look, the Yankees have SUCKED hard before (I literally watched the Yankees be one of the worst teams in baseball from 1989-1992....1990 was particularly awful). Why did they become good again? Because they rebuilt from within (Gene Michaels ran the team while the Boss was suspended from baseball) and it led to a near 20 year period of great baseball. This wasn't the first time, btw, the Yankees had to rebuild. After their period of dominance from 1921-1964 the Yankees were AWFUL from 1965 to 1976...

Bobby Cox took over the Braves in the late 1980's...the Braves had actually won a division title in 1982, competed for one in 1983, went for it all in 1984 by bringing in Sutter (the premiere reliever at the time) only to flame out hard. Bobby showed up and stripped the whole thing down, announced it would be a 5 year plan of rebuilding from within, and that led to the Braves' run.

Rebuilding isn't for losing organizations, it's a necessary evolution in the world of sports for any team willing to acknowledge they will be mired in mediocrity unless they take the necessary steps. You want to see an example of team not committing to a rebuild? The Seattle Mariners for the last 15 years...they always think they are 'so close' and pick up the big FA (Beltre, Cano, Cruz) when really are they are just good enough year in and year out to be a 75-85 win team.

Peralta to return to SS as Diaz heads to the DL with a hairline fracture in his thumb.

I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

I shook my head so long at this post...first of all, the Knicks have all of their first round picks going forward, and between now and 2022 we will only go 2 years without a 2nd round pick because every other year is a swap. Also, doesn't even matter because you can buy 2nd round picks.

On topic, that's a fair feeling I guess. I don't see it that way. It will be 1. Let prospects develop 2. Call them up (read a tweet earlier that Judge and the 2 relievers will be up before 9/1 and Gary Sanchez could be up tomorrow) 3. Hope they pan out 4. Go absolute ape **** in 2018.

Once the luxury tax penalties reset, all these garbage contracts are off the books, if some of these young guys can contribute at the big league level, they're going to dump banks on Bryce, Machado, and a pitcher and get ready for the next 10 years.
