So uh, Justin Smoak actually did something good with the bat tonight. I AM SHOCKED!

Even though the offense came alive, the fact that this team doesn't have a reliable lefty in the pen is sickening. I think Liriano is gonna have to be our lefty bullpen arm in the playoffs.

There's still time to get one through trade. But no way I'd be confident with Loup and/or Cecil in bullpen for playoffs. Even now, it sucks watching their appearances.

Liriano should be in bullpen in that role for playoffs. Estrada,Happ,Sanchez,Stroman as rotation for playoffs is good enough. Might not even need Sanchez in ALDS should they go in as division winner. Could help limit his innings and be even fresher for ALCS, since it'd be shocking if Jays lose ALDS due to Estrada,Happ and/or Stroman pitching one or more bad games in it.

Wow, what a play by Utley. Saved a definite run there.

Meanwhile, Josh Reddick continues to suck. That A's trade is a minor disaster for us right now: 3 solid prospects for one good Rich Hill start, essentially. Bring back Puig.

Heyward wild-pitched home from 2nd for the tying run. Sickening.

After coming back late in spite of a poor start by RP-turned-emergency-SP Mike Montgomery, the Cubs are an Aroldis Chapman appearance away from going 82-45 (winning season ensured).

I guess the next milestone is 40 games over .500? Running out of things to accomplish and pretty soon the 'Magic Number' countdown will appear. Just gotta stay healthy and keep practicing good habits.

But yeah, I'm always going to root for the LA teams to lose regardless.

Toronto needs to keep that up and make up for that disaster of a series against the Angels. Get as many losses from Baltimore and Boston and hopefully Cleveland and Texas split the last two. If the offense could just manage their usual 5 runs a game, they'd be much better off right now with an extra win or two against Cleveland last weekend.

At least after the bad performance yesterday, Jays DFA Loup. They just called up a minor league reliever, but I hope this is finally some admittance that their lefty reliever depth sucks and they might try to find someone else, since they got basically nobody behind Cecil now(unless Liriano moves to bullpen after Sanchez gets called back up),and even Cecil sucks.

I was looking at Fangraphs earlier and see that McCutchen has -16 DRS.

                            That's atrocious.

I thought he was a gold glove caliber player? Only JD Martinez has been worse this year.

Bo Schultz will give better consistency though his ERA is a little high across all 3 levels of minor league ball this year as he came off of an injury. Apparently the DFA was a technicality but I think that's Gibbons just being kind to Loup.

Schultz of course will be part of September bullpen regardless if he was called up now or not, but they still need that extra lefty reliever. Only a few more days until we can get one for playoff roster.

Minor league wise, Matt Dermody is one I'd like to see called up. He's the best lefty reliever this year for Jays in the minors. He's in AAA right now.
