I think Brian Butterfield is an awesome 3rd base/infield instructor. It isn't his fault that Hanley Ramirez is lazy and needs constant prodding to play the "easiest" infield position the right way.

I have said once that we won in spite of the coaches, and I'm not wrong about it. You will never convince me that Farrell was an above average coach in 2013. Didn't watch today's game but from what I read Farrell did nothing wrong. Please explain to me why Farrell or Willis couldn't figure out the Price thing if they are good coaches? If a 2nd baseman can find it why couldn't they? I am probably wrong about Hanley and SPTO is right it's just Hanley being lazy. Or should I be like everything is awesome and we are going to win the World Series? Would you like prerogative instead? And that Farrell is the best manager in the league saying things like the crappy bullpen usage is not really a thing and I'm just imaging it all.

I've agreed with you several times about the managing/coaching being bad.

But you don't need to keep saying it. We all know that you want Farrell gone. You've made it abundantly clear.

Osuna(age 21) becomes youngest pitcher in MLB history to record 30 saves in a season. Previous youngest was Huston Street at age 22.

Osunas putting up better numbers in his first 2 years in the league than Street. Osuna wants to be a starter one day, but if starting doesn't work out for him, it would be a nice career path to be on to have a career like Huston Street(pre-2016), if he can transition into a starter, then that just makes possible Jays rotation of the future look that much better if it can be headlined by Sanchez,Stroman,Osuna.

Where do you get the "Osuna wants to be a starter" thing from? Last year he said that early on in the year but in the offseason and when asked about it this season he's said he wants to be a closer full time. End of Story.

I'm sure for now he'd want to remain a closer, but eventually, if opportunity comes, he'd at least think about being a starter. That's where all the big money goes.

                  Also:

Putting him in the 2017 rotation and turning him loose would be "a big risk," he says.

"Obviously we'd have to make a plan for me," he says. "I don't think I'd be able to pitch 200 innings... If they want me to be a starter they will have to understand that. You know, take it easy a bit. Obviously I want to be a reliever this year.

"But that's my plan for next year, be a starter."
Preference might be to remain a closer, but after a few years in the big leagues, maybe he might think about starting.

Okay thanks, at least you backed it up. I dunno, i'd rather he be a closer for the foreseeable future but I guess time will tell.

The Cubs are having a great season...but if you all recall early in the first few weeks of the season there was talk of them being better than the 1998 Yankees.

I just realized that the Cubs have 26 games left on the schedule...and they would have to win each and everyone of them to match the 1998 Yankees' win total. I think that says more about how good the 1998 Yankees really were than the Cubs.

Indeed, I think the Cubs would've had a more realistic shot of it if they hadn't had that horrendous swoon in the middle of the season when they couldn't buy themselves a win. It just goes to prove just how remarkable that '98 Yankees team was. They were literally playing the game better than any one at any time.

Interestingly, the Yankees had a Pythagorean record of 108-54 [.667] (go figure that a bullpen with Mariano Rivera and friends helps them do better than that).

The Cubs are rocking a Pythag of 91-44 [.674] (go figure that we've been griping about the bullpen all year and they're underperforming the Pythag).

When it's all said and done the Cubs will win 105-110 games like most people thought.

I would not want to see Osuna as a starter unless it was absolutely needed. A good... usually reliable 9th inning guy is worth having around these days. Don't turn him into Escobar where he's closing one year, starting the next and back and forth. It worked with Kelvim and he was good in both roles, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I mean, Casey Janssen wasn't bad, but I never felt like it was a sure thing when he came in. Osuna has bad days, but for the most part, he's consistent. Some how Kevin Gregg managed to get 37 saves for us in 2010. And Jason Frasor led Toronto in 2009 with 11. B.J. Ryan wasn't too bad but we didn't have the rest of the pieces to make having a good 9th inning worthwhile. Now they do. Sure, maybe he's another Sanchez, but I don't want to find out until we need to.
