Matt Carpenter blew his top today over strike 3 call.

Don't see that often from Carpenter

        Sloppy series by Atlanta.

Folty did a good job (7 IP, 9 Ks, 1 run) then the bullpen just gave out.

It does look like Snit is finally listening and putting Phillips in the 2-hole.

What was the count before he threw the pitch? Could've been called a balk, and if no one is on base, it's ruled a ball. So if he had a 3 ball count, it would've been ruled a walk.

It was odd but it seems it's partly Stroman's way of throwing hitters off also having an effect on umpires. It's nice to see Stroman throw another CG game though. He's taking a bulldog approach with his mentality on the mound. Very ace-like IMO.

Frustrating loss after frustrating loss for the Braves.

              And Angels. And Giants too.

Not a good day for teams I like.

It was a 3-1 count but still, how is this Stromans fault at all?

Same thing happened to Stroman again later in game too but no ball was assessed on the pitch. Next pitch, by the knees and ump called strike 3, clearly admitted his mistake on at least one of those time calls.

That seems to be an error by the ump as it appears he's saying "That's a quick pitch".

Stroman didn't pause before delivering the pitch but there was nobody on base, thus it's not required that he pause between when he gets the call from the catcher and starts his motion.

There's a new emphasis this year for pitchers to "declare" whether they're in the windup or stretch since it's so similar for some guys.

Stroman is set up like the windup there since his hands are already together. Essentially, he doesn't have a "sign" position. If there were a runner on base, that would be a balk since he was set while getting the sign. So by the rules, the umpire made the correct call. It's dumb that the umpires weren't consistent with the call later.

I like that they actually called it like it should've been called. It drives me crazy how much pitchers get away with when it comes to balks at the MLB level.

I don't know how I feel about having essentially 3 rookie starters. Haniger doesn't concern me, he will be a good one, but Herredia and Voglebach are completely unproven.

Also, if Taylor Motter keeps hitting like this he's going to take someone's job. 5 HR and 12 RBI already with a solid AVG. Tied with Haniger for the team HR lead, and he's been filling in for an injured Segura. When Segura returns, I think we should try to get him some AB's in LF and 1B on occasion. I think he could be a very good super utility player. When we first traded for him I assumed he was just a light hitting toss-in in that Dyson trade.

I don't remember this being discussed in 2017's rule change.

So it's now where pitchers have to go to a complete stop before starting their motion, regardless if there is a runner on base, now?
