No that was a big pickup for sure. But White Sox I felt got a pretty fair package in return. A's and Rangers got fleeced in my eyes.

The Rangers got the Dodger's #4, #17, and #27 prospects for a pitcher who might've been gone in the off-season anyway. I wanted Buehler or Verdugo in return, but I'll take 3 of the team's top 27 prospects. And if we somehow sign Darvish in the off-season (don't think we will), it'll be looked at as an even better deal.

That being said, the Cubs did a fantastic job filling the holes they have. The Cubs, Nats, and Dodgers are all nasty!

Buying relatively low on Darvish not a bad Plan B.

MLBN guys were saying the Padres demands for Hand weren't high at all. Weren't asking for any top 100 level prospects. The price for Britton was surely Chapman/Miller level though.

I had to go babysit before the Darvish news came out. I actually thought he wouldn't be traded and now...WHOA. Great move by the Dodgers especially considering how they shored up their bullpen as well.

i guess on the bright side for him, he will see playoff baseball probably unless the Indians just completely collapse(highly unlikely but still)

                  Regarding Smith (a nugget):
Joe Smith's trade to Indians puts him within driving distance of his mom, who has Huntington's disease. He did fundraiser in CLE last week.

When the Dodgers have to get Bryce Harper or Anthony Rizzo out in the 7th/8th inning of a pivotal NLCS game, I wonder if they'll regret bringing in Avilan/Watson/Cingrani instead of Britton or Hand.

Darvish is a good pickup regardless of their LH RP situation.

Great move by the Yankees, Darvish big pick up by LAD I don't think Britton was being really shopped it would have taken a kings ransom to get him imo the only real threat LA has in NL is Wash and Cubs Wash has a suspect bullpen themselves and Cubs are still a ? on offense and rotation although turning it around lately so it's still anyone's prize to take with who's hotter at the time imo

Again, everything I read about Britton/Hand indicates the Orioles and Padres were playing hard-to-get. Britton's probably not 100% anyway and the Padres weren't going to solve their division rival's biggest need without a huge haul.

FWIW, Darvish basically makes Hyun-Jin Ryu superfluous in the rotation, so you can put him in the bullpen in October for lefty-lefty matchups.

This is basically how it's going to go. We can also still possibly acquire one of Brad Hand or Zach Britton in August assuming they clear revocable waivers.

Love that we got Darvish without giving up Verdugo and Buehler. I liked Willie Calhoun and he was playing well at OKC. He basically becomes an OF in Texas' system and probably DH by the time he gets to the MLB level.

Maybe so, but Ryu, who is significantly better against righties and has one MLB relief appearance, is probably not the answer against lefty sluggers late in a playoff game. LA has a bunch of options: Dayton, Watson, Avilan, Cingrani, Ryu, Liberatore, Paredes--I just don't think skimping on that last piece is warranted when the rest of the team is ready to rumble. Shopping in the bargain bin doesn't make sense here.

Would be interesting to know if the reason one of the Dodgers actual top prospects wasn't included was because they view Darvish as a rental or not.

Personally I think LA would be set up real nicely to resign Darvish. I think having Darvish might help lure Otani too. Maybe Texas just took that offer without even wanting the higher guys? The return indicates LA being cool with this being a rental though, no?

I would have loved to been in on those discussion. Fascinating stuff.

I love what the Yankees did. No I don't really like Gray so much on his own but given what they gave up and what they gave up in the Frazier/Bullpen trade, it's ****ing fascinating to see what the Yankees have done in the last little while. They've stocked their cupboard, kept it stocked and have revamped the major league roster and didn't even set out to lose on purpose for years to do it.

                              Cashman is ****in' awesome.
