    I figured this was coming.

Agent Brodie Van Wagenen, who reps several prominent MLB players, said in a statement on Friday that 'there is a rising tide among players for radical change.' His remarks come during a dormant winter for baseball free agency.

I'm not normally on the side of the owners, but ultimately I think it will be a good thing for baseball if we stop seeing guys get $20 million/year on the back half of a contract when they're hitting .240. Players have to stop having the expectation that every half decent player is worth 7 years and $100 million.

The times of 7 years for $150M (not an exact figure) for guys over 30 are over.

When is Tony Clark getting fired?

MLBPA has been going soft for like the last 2 CBA's.

What would they ask during a strike? Abolishing the luxury tax?

The biggie would be knocking off a year of the initial 6 year contracts.

Plus what would the players be exchanging for whatever they ask?

But seriously, this is what it looks like when owners finally realize that giving out these massive contracts rarely pays off in the long run.

The market will correct itself, and the games will go on.

I had shared the Kenley Jansen comments from a week or so ago here at OS so to see agents saber rattling as well doesn't surprise me. This is what happens when there's a market correction though honestly, I didn't think it would happen all in one offseason. I think that's the thing that has caught EVERYONE off guard.

              Agreed.

Contracts are just getting completely out of hand imo. Average players are demanding star money and stars are demanding astronomical money.

I'm glad the owners are sticking to their guns about getting the market back to where it needs to be.

It's hard to believe that nearly 25 years have gone by since the last stoppage. On the bright side, a strike would be one way to shorten the length of these evil, overlong baseball games, right?

The dumbest ****ing thing these losers could do is go on strike or have a lockout.

For the first time in God knows how long, people are starting to fall in love with baseball again with the unfathomable amount of young talent and stories spread all throughout the league.

Good God it would be the dumbest ****ing thing ever.

But I wouldn't be against the players fighting for earlier Free Agency in the next CBA.
By the time they become free agents they're basically at the tail end of their primes.
So if owners - who smartly - stop giving long term deals to players on the down slope, there should be some middle ground.
But again, that's on Clark and the union.

And with a league that has no idea how to market all the great young talent lol

Honestly, if the players strike I will take a sabbatical from baseball for double the time the strike lasts. So I kinda hope it's a short one LOL.

Seriously though, the players are being incredibly short sighted here.

The downside to that though are the fans who cheer for X player and have him cut loose from their team at an earlier age.

You might also just exasperate the difference between the haves and the have nots if the number of team control years were reduced from 6 to say 4. At that point every small to mid market team just becomes a feeder team to Boston, LA, and those teams who can afford to pay top dollar for a guy in his prime.
