J.D. has become fed up with Boston's lack of flexibility and now may prefer to sign with someone else.

I don't understand the point of him putting out a story like this. Clearly if Boston is being so inflexible, they aren't really all that worried about losing you. And if you preferred signing with another team, and actually had an offer you were willing to take, you wouldn't have dealt with Boston's inflexibility in the first place.

5/125 (if that's true) from a team with a stacked outfield that wants you to play DH is not an offer most fans are going to look at and say "Yeah, the team just isn't being reasonable here."

        5/$125 million is hardly inflexible.

All this sabre rattling is becoming extremely tiresome.

I'm cool not signing JDM now. **** that guy.

Let's roll with what we have, and see if a full year of Devers will help, a bounceback for Xander, Mookie being Mookie, and Benintendi be sexy.

JD needs to read the market. It's not like Boston has offered him chump change...$25M/year is a HUGE contract. Stanton makes $25M/year, so the only thing I can think is he wants more years. What he needs to realize, however, is that if he's such a hot commodity someone would snap him up. The fact that he's still waiting for that offer on February 7th should tell him something.

JD Martinez is being stupid here (or Boras I dunno) it's not like the Sox didn't up their offer with years and money. I believe they originally had a 4 year deal in the 100 million range as their initial offer. 5/125 is good enough security AND money. This just seems childish on his part.

I did find that Boras made a compelling point in that Manfred is going around doing interviews, apparently with knowledge of what different players are being offered. At least in general terms. That is a really dangerous thing to admit to while maintaining no collusion. Because this info is supposed to be kept confidential, between the team/agent/player, until a deal is reached.

As far as taking sides, do you have the backs of the millionaires or the billionaires is what it basically comes down to. Myself, as a thousandaire, really couldn't care less about who to "blame." They oughta learn to negotiate like adults though.

Uhm...why is shocking that Manfred knows? We all know...at least the information that is leaked. I don't find that surprising at all. The agents leak info, the teams leak info...come on. None of it is kept confidential.

Then why are these 10 or so reporters getting all these stories from both the teams and players (you're being disingenuous if you believe only the teams are leaking these contract negotiations) about what types of numbers are being thrown around in negotiations? It's been this way for as long as I remember and nobody has had an issue with it up until now. But now that teams are finally realizing it's a horrible idea to pay for past performances it's about to become a problem. I don't and won't blame Manfred for throwing around these supposed numbers when they're being leaked by both sides of the table in turns of trying to get the other side to up their offer or cave in on the negotiations.

Yankees trade for Russell Wilson (yes, the Russell Wilson.)

Russell Wilson, the Seahawks QB who made one-day appearances at spring training for the Texas Rangers in 2014 and 2015, has been traded to the Yankees.

Bottom line is everyone (not OS members, I'm referring to owners/agents/players) need to quit bickering and dickering, sign contracts, and play baseball!!!

Because those reports are rumors and we don't actually know anything, we just think we do. It's the difference between a random bystander trying to make an argument that someone is guilty/innocent vs the clients actual lawyer doing it.

How is Manfred knowing details of what is being offered to whom a good look for a sport that has been blasted for collusion in the past? Why are we equating what the commissioner of baseball knows and is willing to divulge to what random bloggers and reporters (and other non-collude-able parties) are producing through the rumor mill? Which may or may not be accurate? Even if it's business as always and ethical in that sense, it seems stupid for Manfred to step in that one with everyone's laser-like focus on the slowest offseason since The Strike.
