    Melky Cabrera signs with Cleveland.

Nats trade AJ Cole to the Yankees for a crisp 20.

It's a win for the fans as well. I think everyone (outside of Texas) wants to see Bautista give it one more go.

Yeah as we saw the great Blue Jays/Rangers rivalry was more of a Joey Bats vs Rangers thing. The reaction in Arlington to the Jays was rather tepid though one has to think the cold weather played a part. I'll have you know Jays fans still hate the Rangers and have bountiful glee whenever they do badly.

It surprised me that Melky is still as young as he is. I believe it was when I was listening to the Yankees broadcast as Torres debuted that Michael Kay had brought up Cabrera being the youngest before to 'do something,' but I forget what it was. Anyway, they were saying it's like when he was 19 or 20 or something.

If I were a betting man, I would have said that Melky and Bautista were near the same age. Wow, was I off.

Ichiro's career is ending this weekend.

Legendary hitter.. but nobody in MLB history has a larger collection of worthless singles.

One helluva fielder. It was a joy to watch him out there.

In his age 27-35 seasons he was a 6 WAR player. I know WAR isn't the be all, end all...but it does try to take into account all of a player's contributions. He was a really, really good player and if he had started here at age 21, he'd have a much higher career WAR. He'll be in the HOF without doubt.

He is a Hall of Famer, no debate about it.

But his teams were so lousy that he may have fewer meaningful hits than anyone to ever play the game.

He's retiring after the weekend? Some odd timing.

The whole thing coming off as a publicity stunt by the Ms, with Otani coming to town.

We all knew it was a publicity stunt to one degree or another. I wonder if the M's will indeed let Ichiro pitch to Ohtani during one of the games.

As for the singles thing.....Pete Rose was primarily a singles hitter too and no one cried about how worthless they were.

The M's are releasing him and his negative war so hopefully they don't miss the playoffs by a game or two again. They're second in the division and it's May. This isn't the time to playing stunts like letting Ichiro pitch to Ottani. That Angels team is who they're going to need to stay above for the WC spot.

They're being sentimental enough letting him stick around for a last homestead but it's a good baseball move on the Mariners part to let him go. I'm sure M's fans would rather see single wildcard playoff game than to watch Ichiro struggle all year.

Pete Rose played on, and debatably drove how many championship teams?

                          Just not a big fan.

The Ms wanted to move him out of the leadoff spot toward the middle of his run. He could have been a 15-20 homer, 90+ RBI guy... but he refused. He wanted to chase the hits record.

.. I can only imagine what would be said about this guy if he played the bulk of his career in The Big Apple, or in Beantown.

They did the same with Junior.

The end result is about the same.

.. cost them an option on a pretty solid young pitcher. Hope a few tickets were worth it.

This is exactly the time to do it. There's still 5 months left in the season, and we're talking about one at-bat.

This reminds me of the old adage about "games in april are just as important as games in september"

I'm not entirely serious but I could see someone complaining if the season for the Ms actually came down to 1 AB in September after knowing Ichiro gave up a bomb in May because of a publicity stunt
