      Meh....it happens.

Wish we would've ponied up an offer to compete with the open market.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Can't wait until Harper, Machado, and possibly Kershaw all sign new $300M deals so I can laugh at this offseason for teams not spending money. When there is no great, team altering free agent, and there will be at least 2 next offseason.

Arrieta to sign within a couple days, Phillies viewed as front runner.

3:37pm: The Phillies and Arrieta "are moving close to a deal," Jon Heyman of FanRag tweets. 1:24pm: Free agent right-hander …

It's really the only team that we've heard about actually meeting with him.

In other news, the Twins will have to pay Anibal Sanchez $417k in "termination pay" after cutting him and his $2.5MM split contract signed less than 1 month ago.

The problem is not the major stars getting their big fat contracts. The issue is the great "middle class" of players who are being squeezed out of good contracts for at least a reasonable term. (3 years or so) A lot of those guys are being KILLED the way things are set up right now. They're not mega stars so the big spenders aren't going to go crazy for them and they're too expensive for teams to justify shelling out the big bucks when they think their younger players on their first contract/heading into arbitration years are cheaper and can provide roughly the same production.

Phillies have a multi-year deal in place with Arrieta pending a physical.

Arrieta can be a guy who bridges things over for the next generation of Phillies starters. If he's willing to take a mentorship and leadership role with all the young guys there it should be beneficial for both sides.

Definitely going to help this rotation paired with Nola.

Arrieta was the final domino of the offseason. Just Alex Cobb, Neil Walker, and Greg Holland still out there at this point.
