As a Knicks fan, I can tell you there's a difference between having a contract run out and going in a different direction and firing a coach. Joe Torre also was not fired. This is exactly how Girardi got the job here in the first place. Also, the headlines suck and you shouldn't pay attention to them.

Regardless, Joel Sherman says Castro the only veteran, the rest will be prospects. I've already seen him (and other Yankees fans) talking about trading Clint Frazier for pitching, and I don't have a huge issue with it, but man. After all the hoopla about his hair, for him to be traded after less than a full year in the majors, that would be wild.

Again, it doesn't matter if he was "fired or let go", the point is they moved on from him.

I don't see anyway the Marlins move Stanton to the Yankees without getting top prospects. If they do the deal that was initially reported with Ellsbury, Castro, Gardner, and Headley they are taking on roughly $60M in salary over the next few years while clearing Stanton's $25M per year. Yes, long term it helps...but not for a few years.

They're not doing that deal. Castro is the only veteran going to Miami.

I’ve heard Frazier and Montgomery’s names mentioned.

Wouldn't they be considered top tier?

I find it humorous that the Yankees are JUST now getting out from under the ARod deal/chapter. At the end of the contract the Yankees just wanted him to go away...and now they are ready to dive head first back into the same type of deal for a player who doesn't have ARod's track record. It's like they can't help themselves!

They’ve spent a decent amount of time in the majors, so I personally wouldn’t consider them prospects.

This seems like a trade George ( Steinbrenner, not Costanza) would try to pull off.

I feel like getting an MVP in their prime is a plus for any team.

This doesn't hurt our chances of upgrading the rotation.

The more I think about it, the more I don't get it. The Yankees were 1 game away from the Pennant...they really don't have a lot of "needs", but they certainly need starting pitching more than power/offense. They led the AL in homers last year and were 2nd in runs. In fact, I think they'd be better off standing pat and letting their farm system feed this team over the next few years.

The Yankees plan on rotating Stanton, Judge, and Gardener between both corner OF spots and DH.

Well A-Rod was 31 when he signed his 2nd deal with the Yankees after opting out. Stanton is 27.

But yes, any deal like this carries risk

Why wouldn't they? They have money to burn. They aren't near the luxury tax penalty.

They have a young controllable roster a flush farm system, the time is now.

Yankees lost the ALCS because the offense went to sleep. This is a massive addition.

And the Yankees are giving up reportedly "low tier" prospects. Seems like a win win to me.
