Yeah, just an unfortunate pitch that got away and happened to end up in same space as Bryant's head was entering.

And I agree, some of these guys can definitely act, but watching the Rockies home feed on MLB TV, they showed Marquez quickly bring his hands up to his face and head in one of those astonished "what the hell did I just do" moves. If it had been a different situation and Bryant was hit in a different location, I could see it being viewed as intentional. But for the situation it was and Bryant ending up being hit in the head, I could never believe for a second that Marquez would have done that intentionally. Maybe if he beaned him in the arm or ribs, but not the head. That's your worst nightmare as a pitcher, hitting someone is such a dangerous location as the head.

Glad Bryant's mostly okay. Sounded pretty scary on the radio.

Yeah, it sucked. The ball and Bryant's head met as Bryant loaded into his stance. Marquez certainly didn't throw it at where Bryant was pre-load. The ball looked like it hit the very front bill of the batting helmet (was hard to tell if it got any forehead) sending the helmet spinning around once or twice and landing back on Bryant's head. The ball zagged back toward the plate and over the catcher after the impact.

Bryant looked stunned (I mean, c'mon) but not hurt. It took all of 5 seconds for the coaches to decide his day was over.

Yeah, I don't think it was intentional either. And Marquez was definitely rattled by it, because on the Cubs radio broadcast they were saying his velocity dropped several MPH after the HBP.

On TV, Len and Jim remarked about how he wasn't throwing inside at all after the HBP.

I feel like these game threads just turn into nothing but Braves and Cubs discussion everyday.

Brandon Belt set a Major League record today with a 21 pitch at-bat. At one point he fouled off 10 pitches in a row.

I'm assuming you know this but wearing sun glasses doesn't help when you are trying to catch a ball in the direct path of the sun.

They eliminate sun glare and nothing more.

Yeah, thinking about it as a hypothetical, I'd probably be doing the same thing if I had just hit a batter in the head. At least for a little while I'd avoid the inside and trade velocity for more control, at least until I regained my confidence and was ready to try going inside again and put more velocity on the pitches.

Ultimately, thankfully Bryant should be okay. It may have actually helped that he was hit the way he was, the ball hitting more on the bill of the helmet and causing it to spin around on his head, rather than hitting somewhere on the side of the helmet, resulting in less of the impact force being able to affect Bryant as the helmet spinning on his head probably allowed some of the impact forces to be more dispersed than an impact on the side of the helmet would have.

As a Rockies fan, I think Heyward's sunglasses are perfectly fine! It's a very nice offset from circus catch boy Almora next door.

Jesus, it took 21 pitches for Angels pitcher Jaime Barria to retire Brandon Belt. The longest at-bat on record.

Phillies walk-off on the Pirates and sweep the 4-game series! First 4 game sweep of the Pirates since 1994 and first 9-1 home start since 1964! Aaron Altherr game winning single. Didn't even start the game and had a 3-hit day.

Phillies have 10 come-from-behind wins this year and are 13-3 in their last 16 games.

                              Incredible at-bat.

I'm just as amazed by the pitcher who was able to avoid walking him over that many pitches. Hey, Braves bullpen, take some notes.
