Just think of it as another similarity from when that one scout who compared him to Arod (we'll ignore that Arod was #3 in Seattle).

I know, I know...we have tickets to the Purdue/Indiana game (it's on ESPNU tonight) and I had told my kids we would be going. Regretting it...

Looking at Didi stats on fangraphs, his BB% has skyrocketed...from 4.4% past year and career 5% to 15.8% so far.

That is a huge adjustment in approach, not to mention how well he's hitting. I get hes hitting in front of monster sluggers but still...kudos to him.

That is impressive considering you would think pitchers would prefer to face him over Sanchez (who he was batting in front of most of the early season. Now he's hitting in front of Stanton and Sanchez).

So for him to increase his BB% while being the guy most would say pitchers need to pitch to, is amazing to me. He's obviously proven he can't be pitched to either. What a conundrum for a starter.

I think if anything, the Bautista move was to buy time for Riley so they don't feel the need to rush him up. Best case scenario is it works and the Braves somehow defy all preseason expectations and get in a wild card chase. Worst case scenario, they used a 1M/1YR contract on a guy who will put asses in seats at least for a while and provides a good reason not to go to Riley before it is time.

And I agree with Owls, I don't think Flaherty or Carmago will remain as sustainable as they have been and the Braves realize that. A month into the season and they're exceeding expectations, they want to find a way to at least finish less than 10 games away from the playoffs without giving up The Future to do it. That justifies the move to me.

The good news is that Riley has absolutely been raking at AA...kid has gotten better every year so far. He looked over matched in Spring Training, so I don't think he's near ready for the bigs, but if he keeps it up I can see him being at AAA soon and if he finishes strong I think a September call up with the chance to win the job in ST next year is realistic.

As someone who's a big admirer of Bautista I want to see him at least end his career with some kind of respectability. The man has pride (maybe too much so) so I know the experience last year hurt him a lot. I applaud AA for at least giving Bautista the opportunity while he hasn't been very good the last couple years he still has a relatively good eye at the plate and can get on base that way. It doesn't hurt that Kevin Seitzer is the hitting coach. He had some success with him in Toronto as well.

This is clearly a short term deal til any young prospects are ready to take over.
