Well the good news for them is they don't have to pay him for the next 80 games, saving themselves around 11 million bucks.

Also, he wont be eligible for the playoff either if Seattle makes it that far.

Yeah, it's pretty clear there are still PED users in MLB. It may not be as prevalent as it was in the '90s and early aughts but you'd have to be naive as hell to believe the sport is totally clean. Their testing procedures aren't even at the level of WADA or other Olympics level anti-doping agencies. This especially sucks for the Mariners especially if they make the playoffs this year.

If the Mariners make the playoffs this season, Cano would be ineligible to play. Under the sport's drug policy, players suspended for violating the drug policy during a season cannot participate in the playoffs following that season.

UPDATE: it's not for steroids, but for the drug Furosemide. It was prescribed to him by a licensed doctor in the Dominican, and he didn't realize it was on the banned substance list.

Never heard that one before. You'd think by now guys would be wise to do a bit of research to make sure what they've been "prescribed" isn't on the banned list.

Whether he's technically eligible for the playoffs or not is a moot point given that he plays in Seattle and the Astros and Angels are also in that division. The Red Sox and Yankees will take two other spots along with whomever limps in from the AL Central (probably the Indians). I see Seattle as the first team out.

Never heard that one before. You'd think by now guys would be wise to do a bit of research to make sure what they've been "prescribed" isn't on the banned list.

Players probably put more research into choosing which TV to get over which prescription to take lol.


Not just Cano, but all athletes, how do you not check with your agent about every single thing you ever take? Regardless if it's just some basic thing you buy from a drugstore or a prescription you get from a doctor. You literally have millions of dollars and your reputation on the line. Assuming there's instances of people not lying about not knowing, you'd think they'd be more cautious.

Hell of a throw by Schwarber to nail Freeman at home - Contreras barely had to move his glove and more or less tripped Freeman with the tag on his way to the plate.
