Welp, Hendricks is getting knocked around early by the Tigers. Hope the Cubs bats didn't cool off with the day off.

It's funny this thread has turned into the friendliest pissing contest ever between Cubs and Braves fans, because yesterday the Braves called up Evan Phillips to shore up the bullpen.

I've seen Phillips pitch once in person, and it was honestly one of the better pitched games I have ever seen, almost on par with Jon Gray-Aaron Nola in the 2013 Baton Rouge Super Regional.

Phillips allowed eight hits in six innings against LSU in the 2015 Baton Rouge Regional for UNC Wilmington, but wormed out of trouble in almost every inning and only gave up a single run before getting the hook in the 7th. He was nearly masterful at escaping tight jams.

Of course current Cub prospect and also probable future reliever Alex Lange, never one to be outdueled, pitched a complete game shutout for LSU.

That was a big stretch of a connection to talk about LSU baseball

I mean I guess, I got to thinking about that game solely from Phillip's promotion and his development solely as a reliever and how both starters from that game will likely end up as relievers.

It's more a reason to talk about college ball than it is LSU baseball tbh.

I hope Lange can hold as a starter. I haven't followed his development at all though

Schwarbs pulled out the 4 iron for that one. Probably the only way it was getting out with the wind blowing in.

He's been starting for high A Myrtle and his line in 13 games is the same Lange I know, with a little higher ERA that I'll chalk up to just adjustment as of now: 3.69 but with a 1.14 WHIP and a 4.77 K/BB (62/13).

He's been a starter his whole life and he can throw a complete game every week if you need him to, but his attitude on the mound and his pitching style honestly would be maximized in high leverage situations. He doesn't nibble at the plate and try to sneak in strikes, he pumps strikes and drops the hammer on his spike curve when he can. I wouldn't call it a focus problem like Jon Gray is dealing with, he's just very intense on the field. If he's starting every 5th day I don't know if he can keep that up or if batters will start to take advantage of that. He's a power pitcher, not a cerebral one.

I don't know if he still does this but at LSU when he pitched he would isolate himself in a dark broom closet until it was time to warm up, and even then he wouldn't talk to anybody. He and Alex Bregman got along well because they were always the most competitive people on the field.

Yankees get on the board first with one of their world famous 76 foot homers in right field.

3-0 Yankees after another zinger that goes 106 feet to left field.

As nice as it was to win last night's game on a ball that is an infield fly at nearly every other park in the Bigs, I really hate parks that favor hitters.

Newcomb cannot even make it through 3 innings. That is just sad.

You need to make a better attempt at trolling. This isn’t the college football forum.

Most of the Yankees big bashers hit homers that would clear Yellowstone.

As I’m typing this the Braves go back to back. I bet you’re not complaining now.

How is disliking a park trolling? I'm glad the Braves are back in it, but their homers this series will not make me like this hitter's park.
