I would imagine speculation. It seemed a little bit harsh...although with how little we've actually heard about Darvish's status, you kind of wonder if Theo and co. are trying to keep something like this hush-hush so they can just deal with it in house. idk...that's even more speculation than A-Rod....and from someone with much less knowledge of what goes on in a big-league clubhouse

Man if only the Cubs could develop pitchers. They've got this position player thing figured out (don't forget about Torres, Jimenez, Candelario, even Soler before he got hurt this year--who are all enjoying some success on other teams)

I do believe there is something to what A-Rod was talking about w/r/t Yu Darvish. I'm not sure how much of an inside scoop he has (probably not super insider-y), but A-Rod is sharp enough to know how clubhouses operate in general and he also knows a ton of people in the game, from the Rangers' org to Theo Epstein to players, managers, staff etc. He's a supreme name dropper.

I think Darvish has been alienated/has alienated himself from the team in some ways. The fact that he's making a lot of money and not helping the team at all defaults to a certain level of discontent. The long periods of silence with no news. The herky-jerkiness of when he maybe, possibly, potentially could throw or do this or that next. The odd phrasings in press conferences (granted through a translator)--the latest was Theo mentioned that Darvish said he was having "severe pain" in his latest throwing session, but in the same sentence Theo explained it as "some discomfort." The back and forth with pitching coach Jim Hickey earlier this year about pitch selection. Visiting the team doctor of your previous team--it's decidedly not normal to do that.

From the way people like Theo, Maddon, and Hickey have talked about him and his situation, Darvish comes off as rather thick-headed. Is he known to be a bit of a flake? Any Rangers fans care to opine?

I also think there are some communication issues endemic to being a Japanese player not fluent in English living in Chicago, with new teammates, doctors, and staff. Even in the best of circumstances, there are some obstacles to that and I think that's one of the reasons both sides agreed on the opt out clause after 2-3 years (I forget exactly).
