I think more people should do that. My buddy was blown away.

A little more of that and he might start tuning in. If he starts tuning in a bit, he can see more cool ****. And then bam, you have a new fan.
I want to make a pace of play cautionary tale joke, but I don't know what it would be.

Bringing someone to a ballpark always works for me, especially if they haven't been to one before. It's just such an event going there.

As far as the cheap routes go, yes some nuanced kind of play always works. I think everyone is obligated to show the Buerhle special as well.

Agreed. I think we'll be going to a game with work soon. The crew outside myself (obviously) ranges from not interested in baseball to straight up mocking it and not understanding why I like it even a little bit. But even that extreme side is open to me explaining and showing why it's awesome. Hoping for a lot of interesting stuff in that game for me to show.

Can't understand why Maddon won't jostle the lineup...just mix it up.

Bryant is consistently up with no one on. Batting 2nd a couple years ago, somewhere close to 70% of his HRs were solo shots.

Mix some of the other guys in...put Rizzo in front of Bryant, or get Contreras in the middle of them...

Something has to change on that end if they're going to have to outscore their pitching this badly.

He did have over twice as many PA with bases empty than with RISP in that year, but he only hit .237 that year in those situations. But yeah, 20 of his 29 HR were solo shots

I've read news reports indicating management sees him playing first base and playing DH now that Morales is gone (rather than exclusively at third base). That scares me because those are the easy positions to fill with someone else and third base is a pretty big hole right now. Not to mention that's not a good sign for someone who is just 20 years old.

I dont see Vlad becoming an everyday 3B, but I could see him defensively being more like a Cabrera or worst case Ortiz in the sense he goes from 3B to 1B, or in Ortiz case, ends up from 1B to DH.

Or a Jays comparison, like an Encarnacion.

Jays are loaded with prospects up the middle, so I could see 3B filled by a 2B or SS moving to 3B, Vlad ends up 1B, and Tellez DH.

Maybe something like a Gurriel,Bo,Vlad,Biggio infield?

Because the analytics are simply wrong for National League ball (assuming the pitcher bats ninth). That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

They are leaving a lot of parameters out for four plate appearances a game by simply saying that they might fall one batter shy of reaching their fifth PA.

I simply do not agree with that philosophy, and honestly as I've been watching it the past few years I haven't felt its benefits shine through in any particular way.

In the National League, your best hitter (I guess I'm thinking OPS here) should bat third. The only exception to this is if you bat your pitcher eighth, but that also lends to the idea of having a very competent leadoff-like hitter batting ninth, which again is going right against the analytics philosophy of frontloading your lineup. Plus, I'm a big believer in first inning runs meaning something for the rest of the game's strategy, and I want to maximize those opportunities.

Willians Astudillo is off the start we all hoped. .667 BA with 3 doubles, 0 BBs, 0 Ks and a higher BA than OBP.

Yandy Diaz and his giant arms have now passed last years homer total. Seriously, how did this guy only hit one homer last year? KK looking so much better this year as well, Adames looking completely lost though

EDIT Turns out that was a broken bat on homer by Yandy. Man is strong

Kevin Gausman's first game back. Walks the leadoff batter. A bold strategy lets see how it works out for him.

*I see he's going with the old walk the first 2 batters of the game strategy.
