Pending outcome of Phillies/Padres, the Braves could find themselves in first place for the first time this year. Nice to see the offense explode...10 runs in the last 4 innings.

Jay Bruce 2 for 2 so far with a double and a 2-run home run in his second game as a Phillie!

Scott Kingery goes back-to-back with Bruce!

The look on the pitcher's face said it all. Looked like a DP ball (which is why there was no catcher, he went to back up 1st) and then that happens.
I think the SS made the right call...that DP turn would've been tough with that slow grounder in the 5-hole, pivoting back to throw to 2nd and a runner on top of the 2B.

                Curious what others' thoughts are.

                  Re: 5/30 - 6/9 Game Discussion Thread

I've heard rumors that the Phillies have contacted the Mariners about the availability of Mitch Haniger. In the wake of the season ending injury to McCutchen. Haniger's power numbers and peripherals are right on with his career norms, even though his average is only .226, that can be attributed to his BABIP being almost 50 points lower than his career average.

If the Mariners do decide to trade Haniger they would probably be best served to wait till the deadline as they would have more of a bidding war for him, as opposed to just negotiating with one team.

I honestly don't even think they have the prospects it would take to get Haniger after their offseason moves. A package of Alec Bohm, Francisco Morales, and a flier on Mickey Moniac would intrigue the Mariners though. Morales misses a lot of bats and has a high 90s FB so he would be a good lottery ticket, and Moniac could use a change of scenery. However, as a Mariners fan a package headlined by Alec Bohm would seem pretty underwhelming. Anyway, that is my unbiased analysis of what it would take for Haniger, and we could likely get more if we wait another month.

That was the catchers fault. No clue why he would run down the base line with a man on 3rd, knowing a double play is unlikely.

Yeah I don't understand the catcher taking off. Moore is moving to his right and the chances of him turning and throwing to second and a return throw getting to first in time were slim and none. Stay home just in case in that situation.

EDIT: What's more? Welcome to the newest Chicago Cub...CarGo? This should be interesting.
late but nah this is much better than what they were doing with Almora. Schwarber is a way better option. He should be producing more and one thing I gotta say that irritates me is how many strike 3 he takes looking. It's weird. but he has a pretty high bb% rate but he should be more aggressive with 2 strikes even if that leads to more Ks.

with no Zobrist this is the best option unless you move Bryant up and then move everyone up and have Schwarber in the 6 hole or something.

I gotta say it's awesome though they are going to get an easier version of 2008 Jim Edmonds to root for in Cargo.

The Seattle play was a perfect storm.

C does his "job" by backing up 1B...though it seems staying put should've been an option.

SS makes a good read, in that he knew he wasn't turning two there...I don't think they get the guy at 2B...he knew that, especially, as was noted earlier, moving to his right and the awful angle he'd have on the throw.

You could argue the result was better than what seemed to be a likely alternative: a, bad throw to 2B that winds up in the OF.

If they only get one out, which also seems likely, the run still scores.

                          Tempest in a teapot.

The Reds are only 5 1/2 games out of first place.

Angel Hernandez sucks as an ump. But we already knew that.

And in a later play, it wasn't Hernandez, but a play at 2b had a tag where the ball was dropped. The ump ruled the runner out. Thankfully there are challenges because the challenge overturned the play.

Catcher only backs up first when there's no one on or maybe just a runner at first. They should never vacate the plate if there's a chance a run could score
