What a difference between leagues. In the AL the two teams tied for the 2nd wildcard spot are 12 games above .500. In the NL the Cardinals and Phillies are only 2 games above .500. I'm rooting for the 2nd NL wildcard to have a losing record the rest of the year.

The AL has 5 teams with less than 40 wins thus far whereas the NL only has one (Miami). Seems the NL is a more competitive team with less teams to "beat up on" versus that of the AL.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I look for Cleveland to sweep Minnesota this weekend & really tighten that AL Central race right up. If I was a betting man, I think I'd probably bet the Twinkies dont even make the post-season as a wildcard.the way I see the American League come October: division winners - Yankees Indians & Astros - _ - wild card - Red Sox and.... Rangers. ALCS Yankees over Astros.
If you take a look at the remaining schedules for both teams, I wouldn't bet against the Twins.
With the Twins, I could totally see people being skeptical about them because they've done nothing before this year for quite some time. That being said, I also think there's a distinction to be made between a team "not being as good as its record" (i.e. good W/L and bad run differential) vs a team that is actually very good but came on in a surprising way.
The Twins currently have the best run differential in the AL, but they also play in the weakest division in baseball. If you look at their 1st half schedule, you notice that they've been cleaning house against the likes of Chicago (AL), Detroit, Kansas City, Baltimore, and Seattle. But, they've been playing about even (or not even that good) against the likes of New York (AL), Boston, Oakland, Houston and so forth. The schedule has just had way more tomato cans on it than quality opponents.
It's really just a matter of beating the teams they're supposed to be beating. The Twins have been doing a great job of that (I wish I could say as much for the Cubs..). If the Twinkies keep doing that, and Cleveland's offense remains this flaccid, then the Twins will win the division for sure. I don't really consider the Twins to be a World Series contender, but winning the division would be nice.Last edited by ImTellinTim; 07-16-2019, 09:27 AM.Comment

I was thinking that. It feels like the Phillies are on life support and then I look and we're still in the playoffs. It's like the NBA Eastern Conference or the March Madness bubble."Ma'am I don't make the rules up. I just think them up and write em down". - Cartman

Re: 7/11 - 7/21 Game Discussion Thread
The Braves have played 36 divisional games so far. Every other NL East team has played at least 45. The braves have 14 straight games in September where they only play the Nats and Phillies. If they have a good enough stretch there the NL East may have little dramatics down the stretch. Even 10 of their next 12 games following this series against the Brewers are against the Nats and Phillies. Depending on how they do there it might put them 10+ games ahead of everyone else.Last edited by canes21; 07-16-2019, 12:42 PM.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

A's with the same record at this point last season and only 5.5 games behind the Astros. Last season they were 8 back and 3rd in the ALW. Definitely within striking distance. Astros are slipping and getting older yet everyone thinks they'll take the division still. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the year they fall to the wildcard but next year is more likely.Oakland Athletics San Jose Sharks

Actually, the point of the post was that the scheduling has been so strange that every other NL East team has basically played 50 divisional games already and the Braves haven't even played 40. You have some strange complex thinking every post I make is to either troll you and other Phillies fans or to prop the Braves up.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

You basically indirectly talk **** about the division rival Phillies and yet you talk about how other people troll and you are as pure as the driven snow in your commentary. It's too easy to see that even though you're a self-acclaimed respectable poster, it's quite the opposite.

Re: 7/11 - 7/21 Game Discussion Thread
You guys can believe what you want, but my post was about how the Braves haven't played 40 games and the rest of the NL East has all nearly played 50. I then talked about how that could set up favorably for the Braves. Believe what you want, but geez, if I ever mention the Phillies in a post, which I do considering I talk about the NL East more than any other division, you all seem to take it as trolling every time. News flash, the Phillies have been a pretty weak team since their hot start. Just because I post the numbers that show that is not me trolling anyone. I guess I was trolling Braves fans when I was posting the numbers showing how bad the offense was the first 60-65 games? Come on.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

I am being 100% genuine here, what is wrong with this post?

I find it odd the Braves have played so many less divisional games than the rest of the division. I also think it sets up a potential situation where the Braves can really give themselves some comfort room if they take care of business. I honestly don't see how this is trolling. It's just me pointing out a something I noticed regarding the Braves and the division.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”
