Originally posted by asianflowYou help prove my point. The owners can do whatever they want because they know the fans will always be there. With that said they have very little incentive to spend more money. Just like the article states, the Cubs have the resources to make a serious bid to land Beltran but they won't do it.

Originally posted by glucklichSeriously dude, what do you think you are accomplishing telling me something obvious? Do you honestly think I dont know the owner is the possessor of the income generate by the team? Heres the thing and pay attention: just because an owner can do it doesnt mean he should especially where the Cubs are concerned. So just spare me your nuggets of wisdom.
For my next post I'll make sure it lives up to your standards first!Comment

We should know tomorrow whether or not the Cubs really want in on Beltran, i think if he does not sign with the Astros the Cubs will see what they can offer. With the Marlins talking with Carlos Delgado, the Mets might up the anti even more on Beltran, I'm not sure how much the Cubs are willing to offer, but i doubt it's over the $120 mil. the Mets are willing to offer.
The Cubs offseason has been a slow one. I thought they would have made a better effort at trying to get a Closer, but i guess they are happy with a Joe Borowski/LaTroy Hawkins duo. Todd Walker playing every day at 2B will be an improvement over Mark Grudzielanek. They will have Nomar Garciaparra for a full season, so that should take some of the pressure off losing Moises Alou.
The 5th starter spot should be an interesting battle between veteran Glendon Rusch and youngsters Sergio Mitre and Angel Guzman, i expect the Cubs to invite another veteran to camp to compete for the job.
The only glaring hole on the Cubs is the one in LF, Jim Hendry has said he is more than happy to start the season with a platoon of Jason DuBois and David Kelton.
But fear not, the Cubs started the 1995 season with a rookie platoon of Scott Bullett and Ozzie Timmons in LF and a couple months into the season traded for Luis Gonzalez.
So there is always hope. it's still a long way to opening day.Comment
