Well then what about these steroids that aren't injected, like this cream and clear stuff, this isn't the same as sticking a needle in your butt.

Re: Why are steroids so bad?
I think that should clear up some of the discussion of cortisone. It acts as more than a pain reliver and reduces and treats inflammation. I gather long term affects such as tendon damage and cartilege damage (which has only showed up in animal testing) is a result of abusing cortisone injections. An athlete sufferring from bursistis is only going to need 1 or 2 cortisone injections during a season and probably will not be affected long term.
Therefore, cortisone is only harmful to those you abuse it while steroids have been proven to be harmful in small doses. Coupled with that fact that steroids provide players with an unnatural advantage and are illegal, it is safe to distinguish between a cortisone injection and steroids. Cortisone is also widely recommended by phsicians while steroids are not, which is rather telling as well.Comment

Re: Why are steroids so bad?
You're just making stuff up, with regards to post 82. Athletes do not take cortisone shots daily or even weekly. They take them over a course of months. Sheffield had 2 cortisone shots all of last season for his ailing shoulder which required surgery. What modern day athlete in the past 10 years has taken or does take a cortisone shot daily, weekly, bi-weekly or whatever? If they do, they're abusing the treatment. And if you read that website you would have seen that common side effect of the shot is increased soreness for a day or so. Why would someone take on daily then? It would not be beneficial in the least to do so if soreness is a result of taking a shot.
Doctors recommend that athletes take a cortisone injection if they wish to continue to play with an inflammatory type injury. They do not recommend steroids when an athlete is looking to bulk up. That's the bottomline here. I don't think you're a physician, maybe you are, so I'll take their word over yours anyday.Comment
