Apparently the Mets never even got to give a final offer.

I could be wrong, but that seems like a terrible contract for Texas. Good for deGrom...

It’s a bit much in my opinion but I credit them for trying to compete

34 and hasn't pitched a full season since 2019. Good for him though, I'm happy for him and his family.

It wouldn't matter what the METS final offer was. TX is an income tax free state. They would have had to match the offer plus increase it for income tax. Based on those numbers even Cohen was priced out.

It's basically the argument Riley made to Bron and Bosh to get them to take less than the max to go to South Beach.

Yeah the last ~4 years deGrom has had one of the greatest stretches any pitcher has had in the history of the game when he is on the field, it's just tough to imagine a guy getting healthier at age 34. I guess it sort of happened to Charlie Morton though

3 years at a ridiculous AAV seemed like a more realistic deal heading into the offseason. Definitely surprising that he got 5 years plus an option year (I can't find if it is a club option or a player option or some sort of vesting option. Passan said "conditional" which makes me think it's probably a vesting option based on innings or something)

Maybe nobody took it seriously when they talked about it during the LCS because it was brodcasters, but there was talk even then that talk inside the Padres organization of keeping their SS and moving Tatis to the outfield, if they even brought him back at all.

I wonder how soon we see other big moves made now that one of the biggest names from the FA class is off the table.

                            Winter meetings begin tomorrow.
