I don't get it the Cubs are not gonna be good next year what is the point of it a 1 year contract in another wasted year they will have. that is a rockies like contract

If it were a Rockies like contract they’d be signing him for 4/5 years. Hahahaha

Dang I was hoping we'd be in on Bellinger under 15, but not over. For the cubs it's simple, he becomes Bellinger again, you have a MASSIVE trade chip at the deadline that can shape the next 5-10 years of your organization.

I don't hate it for the Cubs, but I'm glad we didn't go that high on a flier we wouldn't be intending to flip.

I'll take it. Always the slim chance for a bounceback and we've got AB's to give away at CF/1B (at least till Brennen Davis/PCA or Matt Mervis are ready). Should give him plenty of runway to try and get right

That's probably the most realistic outcome, but as a dark-horse playoff contender I think it's worth the risk to try and "fix" him and turn him back into an above average hitter. The downside doesn't really affect the chances of contending (because there aren't really any better in-house options for CF or 1B at the moment and they are still multiple pieces away), and the potential (as slim as it may be) upside could carry them into contention if other moves are made (particularly adding one of the shortstops and another arm)

Heaney turned down more guaranteed money from the Jays to pitch for the Rangers.

His numbers vs the ALE aren't so good, so maybe a good thing for both sides he didn't sign.
